Blue Pineapples Beauty Queen Parade-Show and Tell

Hi  everyone! Possibly, probably, you've had enough of Blue Pineapples already! This is her photo shoot post; I like to put all the quilt pics online where they have an extra chance to survive computer outages. A record for the future.

Many of you have already kindly commented on this project. I didn't get to answer everyone, yet, because of the not-a-hurricane Henri nonsense. (My poor fridge is bulging still. I am dying for a dinner of peanut butter with tomato, mayo and lettuce sandwiches, a hurricane staple.)

Here is a pretty hurricane candle I made for the storm. "Sea Salt"/ 3 wicks, lots of light.

Blue Pineapples is a simple modern quilt, meant to be a beach blanket or a deck and living room sofas throw. I think right now it is so crisp and white that it will live indoors for a year or two.

Photos:

Each  pineapple is a different indigo batik.

The white ground is a pigment white hibiscus tropical  design.

The wonderful wild backing! Psychedelic jungle print.

Just for fun, in my friends' lovely yard.

Have a good week. Stay cool!

"Urged to Prepare"

SUNDAY hurricane Update: Thank you all for your kind messages, comments, and emails, with hopeful wishes about the oncoming Hurricane! We are as prepared as possible. My eye on the radar maps looks hopeful, but who knows what Henri will bring. I am envisioning extended power failure. I'll need to conserve phone battery, so please do not worry if you don't see a post or update. It is easiest and fastest to post on Instagram, so check there. Thanks again.

................................................

Good Friday morning! We woke up to hurricane warnings this mornings. It has been a tough week, hot grey, ugly. No water supply on Wednesday entire day. After a year and a half of Covid and now back to masks and hand sanitizing, I am not as resilient as I could be. I was sharply criticized for this the other day, so I pasted a smile on this morning and ordered a bunch of hurricane foods. Still have to go get gas in my Jeep, as the ''critic'' did not fill the tank as requested, grrrr.

Update: Yes the water is back on. Mo was not impressed by 5 dollar a bottle Evian I had to go buy.

Update: Blue Pineapples is finished, including its fluffing bath. I chose the simple navy stripe, cut horizontally for a 1" wider than usual binding.

Hope to get out later for a real photo shoot. I am pleased with the result.

This is rather funny, I think, a photo from FB, below,  the quilter was bragging that at least her quilts are used. I remember saying Blue Pineapples would be a beach and deck quilt and blog friend Nancy said, Oh what about the sand and dirt? I said the sand would be okay but just now I was horrified by this photo! I think BP is destined to stay on the deck at least for a few years. [Tho my sand is whiter and pretty nice.]

have a good weekend!

Choosing Quilt Binding, the Final Touch

Inspiration lies in many hidden corners.

Look what came back from my quilter! Always a thrill.

The two secret dolly quilts have lovely special quilting! And we found this cool mid century modern design for Blue Pineapples.

I am very pleased [as always].

Quilting pattern, backing, binding, these are the small but important final touches to a project, in my opinion. I am always baffled by quilters who use any old thing, or so they say. I can, and do spend weeks choosing a binding, that all important final frame.

Let's choose BP's binding, okay.

I knew I wanted stripes, linear, geometric, modern. You may recall I bought this precut binding in a zigzag indigo and white. Omigosh, horrible. The lines gave my eyes and brain the whirlies. Painful. And too small [narrow], not graphic. Also, a quibble, the binding came in many width-of fabric pieces. Not very useful. I expected one premade continuous length.

I considered three simple 1/8"? stripes form Riley Blake. Navy, indigo, and ''denim''.. Yes they all look alike in the pics, the denim was a bit lighter in person

I even considered this old but I still love it dotty stripe from Bitty.

The quilt I was using as a backdrop is a rescue that I bound in stripes from a Ralph Lauren shirt that was made with a mixed patchwork of men's shirt stripes:

I found two blue stripey shirts in my thrifted stash.

Probably almost any stripe in the stack would be fine. But I do love spending time poring over candidates and making that final, perfect! choice. Which do you think I chose? Which would you have chosen?

Binding may be done by Friday if you want to check back.
I am getting my Covid vaxx booster/3rd tomorrow, so wish me luck.
[you may recall I am immune-suppressed due to medical treatments/ issues.]
