Beach Roses-Must be June

The beach roses are blooming.

Iris Murdoch
"People from a planet without flowers would think we must be mad with joy the whole time to have such things about us."

Imagine what these make-believe aliens would think when my neutral dunes, all white sand, brown grasses, hints of green, old weathered grey fencing---suddenly burst into brilliantly colored, sweet scented roses!

Simple wild roses, they smell so sweet...

Deceptively fragile petals, like wisps of silken organdy....

Happy golden centers, calling to the honey bees...

The beach roses bloom along the dune boardwalks, on the lee sides, away from the salt spray...

Tiny banners welcoming summer days...

PS I can't help but wonder what Murdoch's aliens would have thought of all those nearly naked, lobster red folks, sitting, playing on that dull expanse of colorless soil! There they'd stand, scratching their little green heads, trying to decipher the reason why? Why do the smallest earthlings dig enormous earthworks while the big ones sit in silent contemplations? Who, what---why?

enjoy!
