Valentine's Day ♥️~ No longer an exciting day of school projects and stern teacher warnings ["all or none!"], glitter, glue, and colored doilies; Ninja Turtles and My little Pony, Barney, Snoopy, Teletubbies. But a fun time to get out some of a life time of collecting heart shaped objects. Though I surely wish I'd saved those childhood tiny cards that came in my shoebox mailbox each February.
I always dreamed of romantic Valentine's dinners with a dreamy lover---maybe you did too?
My parents went all out, handmade cards, romantic dinners w pink champagne, always flowers--my dad was frugal, no red roses! He'd bring his fave carnations instead, usually a red and white mix for my mom, lots of baby breath, and when I was small [and cute] three pink carnations for me. A card and a few dollars for my brother. Pretty sure chocolate was forbidden, though we made the heart shaped pink cake from my vintage Betty Crocker kids cookbook every year.
Now during this foggy, snowy gray Valentine's Day week , gale warnings flashing red on my screen alerts, I'll share my own little Valentine's displays with you all instead, considering hearts more as a folk art motif, if perhaps a very literal, too easy one.
The Swedish bench.
With bandboxes, and other finds.
Hearts [and Flowers/ OXOXO] quilts:
The living room and amaryllis:
Bowls of hearts, collected, ones I thought too shabby to sell.
Vintage glass containers, I use on bathroom counter for my bracelets and scrunchies and ChapStick.
Mo is decked out in his reflective snood / ear warmer w appliqued wool heart. [made by friend Mel].
Of course he gets Valentine prezzies!
And I made a doll outfit for my little friend's beginner's AG doll.
The planning of the outfits is so fun!
Prim brown hearts:
These inspired me on IG. So charming and simple. I especially like the larger size and new to me shape of the hearts.
My set is not as prim, sadly. I struggle w ''prim''--and they are not completed yet. I will add or show you next post.
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Happy Valentine's Day, dear friends and readers.
