A Holiday Tradition

Good evening!

Traditions---how important they are, especially this time of year, in this surreal world we now live in. My best friend Land I have been going for our Christmas outing for many years. I started by sneakily making up a reason to go to Fortunoff's, a housewares store, now long gone---I needed a new pan, or new sheets, whatever. But the real reason was to see the elaborate HO Gauge trains and villages they set up in their lower level, where the deck furniture usually reside.I adored these animated landscapes, so reminiscent of my dad's trains that also lived in the basement and chortled along through the villages he built himself , all handmade.

Then for awhile L and I went out to dinner at a wonderful Italian restaurant. So festive. But it too closed. In recent years we have been going to the flower store/ landscape nursery over the bride. We went early this year, Just In Case.

Come enjoy it, along with us, it is a blog tradition now too. Here is the lovely old farmhouse. Very simply decorated this year.

And all the sweet smelling trees, awaiting their forever homes.

Plenty of space, open and airy; no scary crowds on a Tuesday afternoon. No Santa, no pet parade, no petting zoo, but lovely things to see.

Outdoor decorations:

I love this driftwood like table!

Farmhouse natural Christmas

White Christmas

I loved these Snowmen, flat beveled mirror glass, maybe 14" tall. They'd be so cute with my mercury glass oieces.

Classic Christmas

Trucks and farm and outdoor-y Christmas

Gnomies! [gnomes, elves, tomtees]

More Gnomies.

 Redbirds:

Paperwhite and amaryllis bulbs.

I got these, a treat, a change form the all white Zivas.

And the big draw, they specialize in beach and coastal trees and ornaments.

As we left, the sun was already setting at three PM. These are the darkest days. The nursery's  outdoor lights came on! Not a tree in this windy seaside setting, just lights. Surrounded by pink cabbage, mauve mums, and pink heather. How pretty, and imaginative.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays to us all!
