Good evening!
Traditions---how important they are, especially this time of year, in this surreal world we now live in. My best friend Land I have been going for our Christmas outing for many years. I started by sneakily making up a reason to go to Fortunoff's, a housewares store, now long gone---I needed a new pan, or new sheets, whatever. But the real reason was to see the elaborate HO Gauge trains and villages they set up in their lower level, where the deck furniture usually reside.I adored these animated landscapes, so reminiscent of my dad's trains that also lived in the basement and chortled along through the villages he built himself , all handmade.
Then for awhile L and I went out to dinner at a wonderful Italian restaurant. So festive. But it too closed. In recent years we have been going to the flower store/ landscape nursery over the bride. We went early this year, Just In Case.
Come enjoy it, along with us, it is a blog tradition now too. Here is the lovely old farmhouse. Very simply decorated this year.
And all the sweet smelling trees, awaiting their forever homes.
Outdoor decorations:
Farmhouse natural Christmas
White Christmas
Classic Christmas
Trucks and farm and outdoor-y Christmas
Gnomies! [gnomes, elves, tomtees]
More Gnomies.
Redbirds:
Paperwhite and amaryllis bulbs.
I got these, a treat, a change form the all white Zivas.
And the big draw, they specialize in beach and coastal trees and ornaments.
As we left, the sun was already setting at three PM. These are the darkest days. The nursery's outdoor lights came on! Not a tree in this windy seaside setting, just lights. Surrounded by pink cabbage, mauve mums, and pink heather. How pretty, and imaginative.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays to us all!
Thanks for the holiday jaunt. I love that sweet snowy owl ornament! Enjoy getting to know your new computer and I hope it solves all the issues you've been experiencing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful outing! Traditions are so important, especially this year!
ReplyDeleteOne of our town's holiday traditions took place this afternoon: Santa came down the street in a firetruck. My brother-in-law's is even better in Massachusetts. Santa arrives by boat!
ReplyDeleteOh a boat! Like in Cape Cod. A firetruck is pretty fabulous sleigh for Santa too. I'm glad your town's tradition was honored this year.
DeleteSo good you got to go! And so much to see!! I loved the little white owl, it looked so real. I also get a kick out of the greenery 'gnomes' - I've been seeing a variety of them on Pinterest this year.
ReplyDeleteInteresting paperwhites. I wonder if they'll smell the same? I would have gone for the pink and white amaryllis bulbs I think. Or for hyacinths if they had any.
Our street has a lot of lights up at the various houses. Some go a little crazy! Our house looks like Scrooge lives here - we aren't physically able to put any up and the kids are busy with their kids. Oh, well.
Good luck with the new computer! I hope it goes as smoothly as possible, and you get used to it quickly! We'll be hanging around waiting to see you when you get 'back' to the blog!
Take care, and enjoy yourself!
Wow - a bumper feast of a post. The little owl's a winner for me too. Such variety and imagination.
ReplyDeleteWishing you well with new computer.
Great beach shots. Thank you.
Oh you got to go on your outing!! Yay!! I love this outing too! So many great items. Good luck with your new computer. 😊 Kit
ReplyDeleteOh, what fun, a little owl, and love those little red trucks!
ReplyDeleteWell, it's decided, the owl is the winner of this post, haha! I love it! Also I liked the white pinecones, and the white trucks. And the redbirds, and the gnomes. I would like to spend hours pouring over all of the fun decorations there. Did you buy anything?
ReplyDeleteHow fun that the tree lit up before you left. Today, I was convinced that it seemed to stay lighter longer. Wishful thinking.
Mo looks very festive. Hope the computer stuff goes smoothly. Look forward to your return.
Hugs :)
