Decorating the Seasons

Good morning to everyone on this magnificent October day. A Ten Best, it just begs for a roadtrip to Vermont for a pumpkin, some cider and cheese, to see the leaves in their red and gold glory. The rain has passed and the air is soft and warm as a May day, if indeed May were not always cold and wind torn.

Decorating: I like to decorate my home within the season. I aim for my Fall updates to be completed by Columbus Day. I'm not one to start moaning for Fall, for setting out punkin stuff the day after Fourth of July. I find it festive and rewarding to have each season arrive, to dig out the quilts and baubles in their time.

It may be a carry over from early childhood, when there would be NO Christmas decor except a wreath and advent calendar until Christmas morning, when we'd wake up to a house transformed. "Santa" brought the tree overnight!~ [however did my young parents manage that?!] Both my parents were strongly influenced by the holiday traditions of their  Alsatian [German/ French] and Swiss immigrant heritages. Sadly, family history says I found this terrifying, and would cry and hide, age about two and three.

So here is the beach cottage decked out for Fall 2020. Nothing much new except candles.

Old favorites revisited,

Happy October!

Mo is walked, the beds are made; I will run a quick errand then walk on the beach. That is sufficient unto this day and time.

gone to the beach.....

PS a few of you asked about the tiny bird: it was gone when I went to check on it. I am hoping it was just stunned or exhausted and survived. I believe this is what the bird was: a Tree Swallow. I have never seen one but my Audubon guide says they migrate thru here in large numbers in mid-October. Mine had a faint pinkish brown smudge on its chest, which shows up in some first year females' photos. It is only 5" long, so that fits how tiny it was.
I wish her a safe journey.
