Inspiration lies in many hidden corners.
Look what came back from my quilter! Always a thrill.
The two secret dolly quilts have lovely special quilting! And we found this cool mid century modern design for Blue Pineapples.
I am very pleased [as always].
Quilting pattern, backing, binding, these are the small but important final touches to a project, in my opinion. I am always baffled by quilters who use any old thing, or so they say. I can, and do spend weeks choosing a binding, that all important final frame.
Let's choose BP's binding, okay.
I knew I wanted stripes, linear, geometric, modern. You may recall I bought this precut binding in a zigzag indigo and white. Omigosh, horrible. The lines gave my eyes and brain the whirlies. Painful. And too small [narrow], not graphic. Also, a quibble, the binding came in many width-of fabric pieces. Not very useful. I expected one premade continuous length.
Probably almost any stripe in the stack would be fine. But I do love spending time poring over candidates and making that final, perfect! choice. Which do you think I chose? Which would you have chosen?
I’m SO GLAD you can get a Covid booster! Don’t think they’re doing them in PA yet...
ReplyDeleteThe quilts look great...I love doing binding because it means I’m almost finished!
I love choosing bindings, always sweating it out to see if I have enough to work with the finished quilt. I think you might have chosen the dark blue/white stripe since it's obviously already been cut for binding. We'll see on Friday! You're right of course, the right binding can lift a quilt out of the doldrums with a bit of zing, or just blend in with the whole if that's required. Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteI like your various striped options (and agree with you on the zig zag). Which did you choose? Any of them would look great. I really like that thrifted blue with the b/w stripe.
ReplyDeleteI like your old favourite spotted stripes binding. The newly-quilted little quilts look great. I am hoping to get back to unfinished quilt projects in the autumn (not long now).
ReplyDeleteOh bindings are difficult for me...is there enough (math challenged here!!), does it slam you in the face or blend nicely? always an issue; and does it do equally well for both sides? (my quilts are usually double sided so that is a HUGE issue for me) --I agree that the framing of your quilt is so important, as with any work of art--that "finishing touch" really. I, personally, love the leftover dotty a lot--it just goes with that quilting pattern--seems the same era...at least to my eye. But also the thrifted blue would be a contender. When all is said and done, you have made some lovely choices. Will look forward to seeing how you decide.
ReplyDeleteLovely flowers...hugs from my heating pad after PT session --oof-dah Julierose [I want my ice cream treat, too Mo ;))) ]
It's hard to say which is the better binding, but I have to say, striped binding is always a fave for me!:) I don't take as much time as you, but so agree that it's always an important step.
ReplyDeleteI would suck at choosing bindings, lol, I'd never be able to make up my mind! I do like the dotty one and I LOVE the quilting pattern! And I agree that the zigzag stripes are NOT good - would give me a headache! I know I'll like whatever you pick, though, and look forward to seeing what you choose.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the flower pictures, especially the top view of the little zinnia bouquet! Very arty.
I don't know if boosters are even available here yet, but I'm glad you're getting one. I have my fingers crossed you won't have to deal with side-effects, either!
Take care and thanks for sharing!
Good Luck tomorrow with your booster! Love your quilt, hello to Mo!!!
ReplyDeleteThe quilting on BP is pretty cool! I could never decide on a binding, but def not the zig-zaggy option ;)
ReplyDeleteI bet Mo cares...a little :)
