"Urged to Prepare"

SUNDAY hurricane Update: Thank you all for your kind messages, comments, and emails, with hopeful wishes about the oncoming Hurricane! We are as prepared as possible. My eye on the radar maps looks hopeful, but who knows what Henri will bring. I am envisioning extended power failure. I'll need to conserve phone battery, so please do not worry if you don't see a post or update. It is easiest and fastest to post on Instagram, so check there. Thanks again.

................................................

Good Friday morning! We woke up to hurricane warnings this mornings. It has been a tough week, hot grey, ugly. No water supply on Wednesday entire day. After a year and a half of Covid and now back to masks and hand sanitizing, I am not as resilient as I could be. I was sharply criticized for this the other day, so I pasted a smile on this morning and ordered a bunch of hurricane foods. Still have to go get gas in my Jeep, as the ''critic'' did not fill the tank as requested, grrrr.

Update: Yes the water is back on. Mo was not impressed by 5 dollar a bottle Evian I had to go buy.

Update: Blue Pineapples is finished, including its fluffing bath. I chose the simple navy stripe, cut horizontally for a 1" wider than usual binding.

Hope to get out later for a real photo shoot. I am pleased with the result.

This is rather funny, I think, a photo from FB, below,  the quilter was bragging that at least her quilts are used. I remember saying Blue Pineapples would be a beach and deck quilt and blog friend Nancy said, Oh what about the sand and dirt? I said the sand would be okay but just now I was horrified by this photo! I think BP is destined to stay on the deck at least for a few years. [Tho my sand is whiter and pretty nice.]

have a good weekend!

love

gone to the beach.....

  1. I like the binding - it turned out gorgeous. I am sorry that you are getting a hurricane, we haven't gotten one yet this year. A TS that dropped some rain & wind, but a snoozer (I slept through it).

  2. The quilt is beautiful. As for the woman who "uses" hers, looks like that one is being spoilt rather than used.

Stay safe with that hurricane warning.

I have a James Keiller marmalade jar just like that (only older and more cracked). It reminds me of the one Tess used (in Thomas Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles) to put flowers in on her baby's grave . . . A sad connection, but a happier one is that Keiller was very fascinated by the Archaeology of Avebury, a prehistoric stone circle so big that a village is inside it. . .

  3. Blue Pineapples deserves much better than being abused on a beach like the one in the photo you shared. If you ever get the urge, ship it to me until the feeling passes! We had our hurricane rain from Fred on Wednesday, just under 5 inches of rain, lots of flooding, etc. Hope you won't need those hurricane supplies.

  4. Oh keep Blue Pineapples in the house..it is too lovely to just be a sand blanket I think!!

We are so upset with all those "naysayers" who haven't gotten shots--we had the chance to stop this virus in its tracks--but now, not so much!! We are pretty much staying out of stores, etc. Too many unmasked people out there and CT has a pretty good vac record--but we need everyone to get on board...(Sorry for the rant--,)
I don't watch the news anymore--too too depressing...

I can't wait to see the full shot of your pineapple quilt...

Hanging in with PT and trying to sew in little fits and starts...
    hugs, Julierose Stay safe...

  5. I hope the storm misses you! We had a lovely thunderstorm with lots of rain which made me sooooo happy. Smells great out! I told my hubby today, I am so angry at the people who have caused us to all go back into hiding. Damn fool's they are. I am in the process of selling my football tickets. Boo. Take care! Kit

    1. Guess we all have our opinions concerning covid. Frankly, i'm somewhat peeved with the (old) hypochondriacs imposing restrictions upon the healthy (young) rest of us...whaddabuncha scardey-cats:/

  6. I LOVE BP! It's absolutely perfect! I'm glad you are pleased. Yeah, lets not use it on the beach :)

Just tried checking your weather. I can't tell what's going on, if anything. I hope you keep electricity and don't experience flooding. Oh please, you are very resilient.

    Keep safe!

  7. Your pineapple quilt is so crisp and beautiful - great job. I'm all for using quilts but I think I'd draw the line at the actual beach, lol. I hope your hurricane is milder than predicted. Sounds like you are well prepared!

  8. Blue pineapples is beautiful and like everyone else, the thought of it being a beach blanket is kind of horrifying! Keep it indoors and use a cheap mass-produced blanket on the sand!

I bet your 'critic' is less prepared than you are. Flip them off (mentally if nothing else) and just take care of yourself & your family.

Sadly, the Covid virus is going to be with us going forward. Since it can and will mutate it can't be 'stopped' even by vaccines, just like the regular flu viruses. I think the press & politicians need to stop trying to scare people and just put out info on the best precautions to use going forward.

We had a fun-type thunderstorm last night, with a lot of 'crack/boom' thunder (and some lightning, too, of course) and it poured like mad for a while. Nothing scary, though. Thunder was loud but not the shake-the-house kind so I enjoyed it! LOL 1.5" of rain, too.

I hope you don't get too much of Hurricane Henri! Maybe it'll be a near-miss...! Good luck!! Keep us posted when you can!

  9. Blue Pineapples is a treasure of a quilt. The quilting is just perfect.
I use my 3 precious Keiller marmelade jars for just that. Great wide openings. I remember buying them with the original marmelade many years ago so They have the original lids. Long may they last.
Look after yourself and precious Mo.

  10. Good choice for the striped binding, cut wider. I really like striped bindings and this seems the perfect finish.
I'm so glad BP is going to stay on your deck for a few years.
The storm watch images are alarming. So glad it passed you by.
    Love your zinnias!
