Shopping Post Pandemic

Hi! Last week my friend L and I had our first big clothes shopping spree in more than a year! No, no exotic visits to Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus for us, just the fun of Old Navy and Target. Target has been a stalwart supplier of home necessities, detergent, shampoo, doggy treats, ever since the lockdowns began last year. But it is not an easy online clothes shop, too much, too oddly sized, etc. And Old Navy with its crammed racks and general mess was hopeless--we chickened out there last fall, this was our first trip back.

We did wear masks in the stores--mostly as a courtesy and also to avoid catching colds which apparently is an issue post-mask use.

It has been cold here and I was thrilled with my spring finds---for one day. And then the heat wave came. Oh it was hot here this weekend. Saturday morning, frantically searching for shorts and flip flops! I still had flannel sheets and fluffy throws layered on my bed. Poor Mo needed the AC. [me too!] I haven't sweated like this in years. At least my old clothes all still fit!

I bought some cute 4th of July outfits for friends' babies but that was a big fat NO, so I am seeing returns of the sweaters and the baby stuff next week. Too bad. Here are some finds:

Old Navy: cute linen shorts and a cotton lacy sweater.

The same sweater is tomato soup rose red.

A few tee shirts.

A token tie dye fad tee!

Gold-ish scallop shell earrings, $7.oo, no big deal if lost in the surf.

Target:

I don't wear skirts or dresses. Ever. But I loved these retro fun frocks, how cute!

Target now stocks useful random sundries, office and craft supplies. Cheap silverware for BBQs and picnics  instead of plastic.

Dollar bin finds:

Cute suede flats for future Autumn afternoons at the pub's sidewalk cafe.

USA short shorts, summer sleepwear.

Patriotic dish towels from the dollar bin. I think with appliqued flags they'll make very fun throw pillows. Or great napkins for summer BBQs, as is.

I also like the towels with words as quilt backing inserts, as feed sacks were once used.

Fourth of July rash guard tee for Mo, at least HE liked his holiday outfit. Good boy!

I guess the two sweaters will go back though. They were expensive for my budget, $40.oo each, and will not be of use now that it got so hot. I chose them thinking they'd also be great in the Fall, when it's hot here through November. But that's a long ways away, lol. I will keep the suede flats tho, hope is eternal/ I am a dreamer.

...

The past week was stressful depute the fun outing, so not much got done in the quilt room. Spring cleaning, screens in, air conditioners cleaned and tried out. Family issues and upsets were distracting---and then I got a flat tire! Brand new car, maybe driven 200 miles! So upsetting. [a nail, but still...]

I did make my Blue Pineapples outdoor table cover. It came out cute, nice and waterproof, even though it really doesn't go with my tropical chairs cushions. Two large 99 cent totes make a cover. I may look for a different print that coordinates better, easy to make and the price is right. I'd love to find an outdoor rug too, and some sort of little shade teepee for Mo?

Like this: Omigosh it has pompoms! And bobble fringe!

Have a great week!

love

  1. Your blue pineapples table cover turned out very cute. It has been very hot here too, a bit of a break today though tomorrow is going to be hot and humid again. We're slowly getting our transplants out into the garden. Resulting in very sore back, hip and thigh muscles. Maybe not muscles any more, just old body!

  2. Nice that you got out to shop! I've never been a fan of Old Navy but used to shop at Target occasionally. I haven't for a long time, though. I *LOVE* Mo's t-shirt! The shorts and tie-dye shirt are cute too! The sweaters are pretty but I could never wear 'summer' sweaters as I always got too hot QUICK. The shoes are cute but don't look very comfy to me - pointy toes! My feet are NOT shaped right for those, lol.

I like your blue pineapples table cover, too bad it doesn't match better. Maybe paint the pineapple tops green like the green in the cushions? LOL. Might be fun.

The teepee is cute but doesn't look very 'cool' for summer. And it might be hard to find one the right size for Mo. Maybe make one? I wouldn't think the wood dowels would need to be THAT thick... Might be a fun project?

I went to the mall with my daughter and granddaughter last Friday, and I was kind of feeling deja-vu-ish as I walked through Dillards. All the dresses looked very 80s to me - like GunnySaks and all those other similar brands, peasant dresses and smocking. Very pretty but much too 'young' for this old lady!

Still, it IS nice to get out! Even if you just window shop!

    Thanks for sharing!

  3. Lovely to have a spending spree. I wish I could buy pretty linen teatowels like yours so cheaply, but I seem to have expensive taste - will NOT pay £6.99 each for them (that's $9.91!!!) I am still using ones inherited from my mother (and she died 14 years ago) so reckon I need some new ones!

My clothes shopping this year has been a recent purchase of a new sweatshirt from Cotton Traders (on line) and some stretchy exercise pants from Tesco (supermarket).

Not at all warm here - we have felt we were having winter weather in May - when it should be nearer 20 deg. than 10! It has rained just about every day too, and nothing is coming on in the garden as it should as too cold (and frosts nightly until mid May). Roll on "summer" . . .

    1. I love vintage tea towels but they don't stand up well to evryday use. I like these cheapies from Target, nice cotton, not linen.

It was cold here too, hence my buy of the summery sweaters; and then the heat wave came. I do need a few nice things if I am to be seen in public, and I don't wear ''athleisure'', not my style.

I hope your garden gets going soon!

  4. What a nice shopping trip! Those sweaters were cute. Why did they not work out? I do love Mo's new shirt. I still am online shopping. And buying myself some needed items. And some not needed...lol Kit

  5. Sorry about your difficult week. A flat tire is always unwelcome surprise especially on top of relational stress. You found some cute things.

  6. Looks like you had a fun outing. The dish towels are really cute. Especially the one with the stars. Love the shoes, too!

Oh my gosh, I can't believe you had to use air conditioning already! We were warm last weekend also, at least I think it was last weekend...hard to keep it straight ;)

Must be something in the air, cause we've been having one of 'those weeks' for a month now. Hope all has returned to normal for you.

The pineapple table covering is too cute! It matches the cushions in that they are all happy and fun!

  7. Great shopping expedition. Love your shorts and tops. The stylish shoes are wonderful.
Ican't believe you need an airconditioner already. We're chilly here today and rain is tailing off as Winter arrives.
Smiling Mo is a treat and he does look so dashing in his new vest!
