A Snow Day?

Hi, everyone!
Did you all have snow? I certainly did not expect THIS despite the ongoing frigid temps....

See the snow on the dunes, below? And the squall lines of snow in the clouds over the ocean?

And more to come this weekend?!?

I've only had one calm windless day for beachcombing.

I don't mind the cold, if the temps are above, say, zero? But the icy sand, blown by gale force winds, has kept me indoors.
And the winds have left the beach quite bare...

A rare find, a seahorse skeleton.

Think of this tiny creature being swept all this way from his warm home in the [?] Caribbean. They are not indigenous to the North Atlantic, as far as I know.

I've only ever found one other.

I liked the textures of the seed and berry and seahorse, all found on the wintery tideline together....

Cookies and gingerbread plans this weekend! What are you guys up to? Frazzled or fun?

Meet Lolita!

Come visit, say hello to her! She loves company!

Lolita is my newest primitive angel doll. She is a winter snow angel....

I wanted to name her Noelle. But she insisted on a hot name like Lolita.

I love gathering and planning all the tiny details that go into a doll like this....

It can take me years to find just the perfect somethings that will bring my dolly to life...
Here are her tiny underclothes---a white baby t-shirt chemise and vintage net and lace panties....

Here she is wearing them...and her teeny-tiny lace trimmed socks:

This is her sweater---a handknit vintage baby sweater, so perfect! And her mittens, fluffy marabou feathered scarf, and crystal wire halo...

This is the bodice of her dress...remnants of a recycled Victorian nightgown. The long white dimity skirt has handmade lace inserts. It was once an apron.

And her little white ice skates, of course.

Here she is..Lolita! All dressed up for the Christmas ice skating party, tonight at the pond....

And here she is with her dear friend Grace...

and their best friend Honesty Jane....

All my angels are available in my etsy shop. Come visit!

enjoy!

Continuing Cold---with Bluster

The gale winds and frigid temps have come to stay?

Oh, I hope not....It has been too windy to walk on the beach, the blowing sand is downright painful.

Today I had my afternoon walk in the big---huge---supermarket on the mainland instead. I'm not one for big Super Shop'n'Drop kinda stores. I love a small shop, a bakery, the local farmers market; a good butcher, a farmstand, I can even get into BJ's (AKA Costco-esque?) giant warehouse weirdness...but the supermarket it had to be. Sadly my lovely little seaside grocery had only barren shelves, as it too hunkers down for its long winter nap.

I came home with an interestingly wrinkled Savoy cabbage and fresh dill and caraway seeds.

I made old-fashioned cabbage rolls for dinner. I thought the huge pan of roll-ups would last till the weekend! But no! The dish was yummy and fragrant and fairly light. Definitely warm and cozy...

And---all gone.

                                       now what?

Junior says Hi! and Gimme my lunch!

                                .....gone to the beach

PS  You can find the recipe here .Note---easier than it looks! Needs a LOT more of the seasonings tho, maybe because I cook w/out salt? Add more black pepper and a litle garlic powder, plus the fresh garlic. Lots more dill and carawat too. (To taste of course.)
