Good morning! How pretty--light snow flurries like in a souvenir snow globe. 40* here so it won't pile up, at least for now. Glad I didn't wash the windows though.
A friend asked me what I was doing these days--she meant new quilt wise, after my oh so busy [imaginary] list of projects, previous post. But I felt like such a slacker. The Christmas stuff came down the day after non-Christmas and is tidied up in a tote, but I have not boxed it into its bin for storage in the far closet nook! But despite my still bad choke-inducing cough, I put in the storm windows and also ''fed'' and polished the pine furniture. The salt spray watermarks have looked especially awful in photos, so I hope this gunk worked.
Meanwhile, back in the little sewing room, no new projects. I've been working on a challenging doll dress. Little friend chooses the fabric and draws a sketch, I add my own sketch as she supervises. We have fun!
But then---the skirt fabric, sent by a designer friend along w trims and laces---was very odd. Late last night I tried to tell myself it is okay, but no.
Woke up with a redo plan that worked! I know at age ''almost-6'' LF is not too critical, but I can't give someone poor quality work. This is better! And easier to dress the doll, 14" American Girl doll.

Otherwise I'm still finishing 2025 projects. Good for post flu brain fog as no plan or choices need to be made.
Old Red Baskets: Binding done. Isn't the veggie toile backing wonderful, I love it. Saved it for so many years.
I didn't wash this yet; the quilting made the old blocks look so fresh that I decided to leave well enough alone. I did soak the corners briefly to remove glue stick residue and darned if the one red calico didn't run.
Good to know for future use and washing.
No tulips yet for its glamour pics, tho I still have October's pumpkin, lol. Saving it for the beach critters, a no-no here so I must sneak it into t he dunes on a silent day. It's still so pretty though.
Then what a surprise ending! Silent Night is DONE, yawn, sigh, yawn. It is renamed Snow Day.
And I'm amazed that the finishes like faces on the pets and additions of the snowbabies turned this tedious behemoth into something adorable. I like it! Maybe---love it?.
Once the kiddies came out to play, I knew it was a daytime scene of shouts, laughter and snowball fights. Snow Day it is. I'm so glad it came out cute, it's maybe the most time consuming quilt I ever made, both in hours spent sewing and years in work.
The snowbabies came from another Jan P pattern, or two. They make me smile. Many thanks again to Julianne for the bright wools I used.
And of course I added a Pug.
Next projects: Ill make backing for Googly eyed Jacks, then piece Noah's Ark and its backing. That'll keep me busy for January and prob lots of February. I also may make some new prim Basket hearts, the collection is crying out for blues. Hmmm...last set of Old Baskets to piece, Christmas mini to quilt. Try out block/ section of Boardwalk.
Busy work. Let the winds howl, let the snow fall...
Have a good week.

gone to the beach...
No beach walks, just this beautiful bird in the wind tossed locust tree. Not Mr Mockingbird, I think it's a mourning dove.
And this wonderful, although yes, it is pink, sherpa hoodie found on Amazon. $34.oo. Outerwear for indoor wear in this drafty home. My mom always forbade pink for adults, except oddly for golf shirts. She'd frown and say, You'll look like a fat pink rabbit. Me, now, as if I care! Comes in many other colors, if you want one and agree w mom.

I just love Snow Days--so perfect--a beautiful finish on this, Lizzy;)))
ReplyDeleteAnd that sherpa hoodie is so neat--looks really warm.. I hope you are getting better each day now...
I made us meat loaf and boiled potatoes for supper...Tom has to have his "meat" ;))
Since I gave my Centennial quilt to Candice I miss having a "big" quilt for my king size bed..
But I don't see myself making one these days...
Snowing like crazy here right now--very wet snow... just 32 degrees...
Take care and stay warm...hugs, Julierose
Thanks about Snow Day! And did you get a lot of snow. Prob you could do a king size quilt if made in four or six sections? Tho it's weigh a ton and you'd need to have it professionally quilted and bound. Remind me about the Centennial Quilt and why you gave it to C?

Sweet little quilty-Mo on Snow Day. Real Mo looks as if he's willing his lamb to get up and dance for him! What's wrong with pink for old ladies like me?? I have two hoodies in pink (different shades), one is a full zip jacket (too big but goes over my sweatshirt when I'm really cold in this drafty old house. Must make some hearts like yours, perfect for our now-empty basket in the dining room, now that the Christmas cards have been put ?? (just disappeared, I know not where). Your little friend is such a lucky girl, having you sewing up designer outfits for her dolly. It's so wonderful having a young friend or two that we can spend quality time with. Expecting a snow storm beginning tomorrow for two or three days - our area is on the outskirts of the heavy snow area, but with lake effect most anything can happen. I need to get busy and feed/polish some of our furniture, but may get lazy and save the chore for spring cleaning. Hope your cough subsides soon.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree about wearing pink and as many layers as needed tho at times it gets cumbersome if I'm wearing a down jacket.
DeleteFeeding and polishing works best for me in winter when the wood is dry and absorbs the products. I think the corner cabinet and Shaker chests look good, but Swedish bench needs ist own session as do the poor spotty dining room chairs.// Cough is lessening but I have dr appt on Tues to check lungs for fluid & for pneumoinia/ sinus inf etc.
I'm the lucky one, that my little friend likes to create and spend time w me, she's just the best.//Wonder where the Christmas cards went...?

Now you have your projects sorted out for the next few weeks anyway, and time to mull over the "what next?" I am "off" quilting right now - haven't touched the WIP since before going to NZ. Snow Day turned out perfectly (just love the cat and the little Mo). Glad you are fond of it now.
ReplyDeleteWe have been threatened with more snow. The more sensationalist newspapers speak of a 656 mile wall of snow - another Beast from the East, like we had in 2018. I do hope not . . .
Oh no! about the awful storm. Maybe T & R could come stay w you for the duration? If it's really bad, Tam might not have work? //Hope you get back to quilting, it is so engrossing and peaceful. Maybe when you re able to again go to the quilting group.
DeleteI'm jealous you're getting snow. It's gotten frigid here and when it's cold ANYWAY I'd just as soon have pretty snow to look at!!
ReplyDeleteAll your quilts are beautiful, but if you want to take a break don't feel pressured. You will want to get back to it when you feel better, I'm sure! Maybe curl up in your sherpa jacket (I like the soft pink!) with a book and some tea for a while!
I'm still sorting and trying to put things away. We've given away a ton of stuff and I think the end MAY be in sight, but it's taking forever!
I always enjoy seeing what you've been doing or seeing. Hang in there, and I hope your cough is better soon!
OMG, I'm so shocked that my above comment actually published from my computer! But oops, it didn't say it was me. Oh, well. It was me though!

I pretty much knew the first comment was from you, it has your ''voice''. I think if I stopped quilting I d never begin again.
DeleteSnow is so dangerous! And you have to drive D to school so early. You do not need a fall.
Reading--nothing to read. I haven t even opened your ff story... and new tea is ick....
It's so frustrating to have fabric bleed. The quilt I put on my bed during the holidays is a victim. Some of the reds bled and one particular fabric absorbed the dye in spite of all my color catchers. I still love it with it's unplanned pink patches.
ReplyDeleteI know! Annoying. I so do not want a pink and black toile backing result. I couldn't get the red calico as a swatch to run---could it be the thread?
