I did nothing This week. I really didn't. Seems like we've been waiting for this stupid storm to arrive for like, forever. More than a week for sure. So slow. If not for internet nonsense we'd just see a
edit/ next day 1/25: snowing finally...//Update Monday: I m pretty sure this is wrong, but my area is the final almost 16".
It was so cold last night, I couldn't keep my drafty bedroom warm. I slept in my daytime clothes [sweatpants and two tee shirts, socks] and huddled in my new Pottery Barn sherpa throw, getting up each hour to check on Mo. He insisted on sleeping in his usual ''nook''...the floor was outdoor temps cold. He's not a fan of covers so every hour I d find something new to wrap hm in. We survived, [He sleeps in his bed, my bed is too high for a senior pug to jump or fall from. He doesn't like to cuddle anyway.]
I did see the doctor this week . A friend went with me bec this doctor is not the best communicator. I babble to his unresponsive back as he rereads my computerized chart. I mumbled at one point, "am I talking to myself here?'' and he turned briefly and motioned me to go on. Bottom line he Rxed steroids and antibiotics for post-flu lung inflammation. My cough had almost entirely subsided, but seems to be be returning as as Rx is tapered off?
Ordered tulips, how pretty.
Worked on a few just for me hearts. I wanted blue to add to my brown collection. I am just not a brown fabric person.
On IG there's been amusing to me tutorials on How to Make Your Own heart template. LOL. The brown one is my oldie, cut freehand, usually filled with lavender or herbs; the white one is the circle template and ruler version via IG. Soooo close.
I don't have a good selection of repro blues, isn't that odd?
Used these from my favorite fabric basket.
The toadstool maybe doesn't fit in, but I love it.
Cooking now but why? If the power goes we'd have to leave; if the power stays on we can cook. sigh I used to love winter. Day two, now I'm making biscuits and roasted apple slices. To use the oven for additional warmth. The apples smell lovely.
This is my teatime real book for this winter. The header pic above is page one. I can't tell yet if I like it, the print is so tiny, I really can't read it, not even just enough to see if I want a readable Kindle version. Disappointing.
Mo is baffled by staying in now that the snow happened. There's a huge chest high drift against the deck door and outer front door too. Dogwalker cancelled, of course. But ''stay in / stay safe '' is not Mo's mindset.
Back soon with more, some quilty thoughts are emerging.

gone to the beach...
today's beach in the snow, photo from a friend....
My week hasn't been terribly productive either, once you take out all the regular chores, but sometimes we just need weeks like that... I used to enjoy winter more, but like you mentioned, the Internet gives us more info and I think turns it into a stressful thing for me. Of course, as I get older, the cold is also less fun l, too. Poor Mo, sleeping on the floor. My kitties pile on me every night and I can't move, but we share warmth in our old drafty house and I'm thankful for that. Here's to next week being better...in all the ways.
ReplyDeleteNot Poor Mo. When he was a puppy and young dog I d bring him up to bed and he'd jump down, go to his own bed. When he was a grown up doggy he d ask to be boosted up, but would walk around, inspect and jump off. The bed is not super high but it's not safe to make him sleep up there w me and maybe fall or jump while I am sleeping. He has a right to sleep where he choses and be safe. My previous pug always slept with me, he was a cuddler.
DeleteHard to say you did nothing this week when you made those great hearts, cooked and kept yourself warm, that in itself is a job this week. A foot or more snow fell here today and the furnace has been running every few minutes because the temp and wind chill has been awful all this past week. I wear at least three layers in the house because our old house is so drafty and cold. Had four quilts on the bed one night, though usually sleep under three in winter, and two of them have wool batting. No wonder we both make quilts!
ReplyDeleteHa, thanks. You re always so encouraging. It's all due to you that I started sleeping under some of my quilts. The current quilt is so soft and warm, Winter Marsh---flannel front and back, plus flannel applique, but not wool batting.
DeleteI don't think we got anywhere near 12" of snow, but the wind has caused big drifts and then bare spots. Maybe 6"?
We have had very cold temps, but not a lick of snow this winter. I hope your power stays on!! As long as your oven is going and layers are on it's nice to look out to the snow. Happy winter! I hope you and Mo stay snug as a bug!
ReplyDeleteUsually the snowy view is nice but this storm was either white out [no view] or after dark. It's the cold/ power loss issu ethat upsets me.
DeleteJust lovely tulips and hearts, Lizzy!! We are pretty well snowed-in here, too--along with ice crusting the top of it all!! Our plow guy has come 2x so far and has yet to shovel the front walkway...
ReplyDeleteAnd,,,it is snowing once again S I G H !! I'd forgotten what "real winter" was like--this is a reminder that it is still out there!!
I haven't done anything "sew-ey" either to speak of...i just cannot get myself motivated. Ordered a new book on a row-type quilt hoping it will "move me". Just feeling "meh" generally.
I hope you can stay warm enough there and relax with a good book--those roasted apples sound yummy. Hugs to you and Mo Julierose
Hi! Hope things got shoveled and plowed but that you don t need to go anywhere after all. I ll look forward to your new project. I liked your idea of doing some blocks from JP's Sleighbells-I think I have another pattern similar. Tell me if you need some wool scraps.
DeleteRoasted apples sound so good! I bet they made the house smell yummy - and tasted yummy, too. We didn't get a lot of snow here, maybe 4 inches, but this morning it was -8°. Windchill made it feel like -23°. Too cold for me! It warmed up to about 10 before I had to get out for a doctor appointment. Stay warm and don't worry if you "do nothing " -- it's good to have a break now and then.
ReplyDeleteThe roasted apples are a great way to use the oven and use up apples that are getting a bit aged.
DeleteSo it finally came. You sound like you're over it. I'm sorry you're so cold. I put on long johns under my jeans, a tee shirt and then a sweatshirt with my ankle length fleece robe over it all. Nice and toasty but my feet still get cold - sigh~ I love the tulips and you are slowly motivating me to make some more hearts. We'll see. . .
ReplyDeletePerfect outfit, how about some UGGs or faux-Uggs for your feet and ankles? I also have sherpa Allbird sneakers, tho they may no longer make them.
DeleteThe hearts get a bit addictive, pulled out more blues today.
Beautiful photos. ❤️ Your dog is adorable.
ReplyDeleteWarm greetings from a retired lady living in Montreal, Canada ❤️ 😊 🇨🇦
Thank you! I bet it's even colder in Montreal, isnt it. Hope you're home and cozy. Thanks for visiting.
