Hello, hello! Last week's snowstorm has lingered as temps ''plummeted'' and remain in single digits. There's mini glaciers everywhere, might not melt til, um, spring aka June.
My tulips from @hollandridgefarms have lasted all week.
So I was inspired to challenge myself to style Old Red Baskets, a very autumn quilt/ table runner into a spring like look.
So fun! I love it. No one but me will see the acorns and autumn leaves, right?
Came across these cuties as I was tidying on a did-nothing day.
I've enjoyed using old saved blocks so much recently with Blue Baskets and Old Red Baskets--I started on the neutral set of four. Sort of mourning prints but also 'don't show stains" apron prints maybe.
And a funny accidental shot of the little sewing room, making it look very
big and wide open. Hahaha. I so want a rug to make it warmer and prettier, but the bare floors clean up so easily. On that right wall, w my work baskets, I d like to maybe hang Bramble Berries someday. The room faces north so less sun fade.
Some low energy spring cleaning has begun, as I wash a stack of the yellow ware bowls now and then.
First big effort cooking since flu began 6 weeks ago now. A str fry in my new Christmas gift braiser pan/ wok. I was so tired standing , prepping the vegs. Need to get out again and recapture walking and standing strength. But frostbite isn't appealing either, so I do my little Justin Agustin moves for now. @justinagustin here
Mo saw the vet today, ears are badly infected again. vet: "We can just make him comfortable.." He is almost 12 now. It breaks my heart to think he is in constant pain, though he doesn't usually seem to be.
Hope your week is good. Oh have you seen the Walk for Peace Buddhist monks' story. They radiate such calm and peace. I am a bit dreading if they arrive at The White House though. May they be greeted with respect.
love
lizzy
gone to the beach....

Oh those red, red tulips are just so lovely--especially paired with the Old Red Baskets piece which I love!! And the new LV ones are neat, Lizzy--where DO you find these things? So much fun to work with them I would imagine; thinking all the while of those hands that made them...;)))
ReplyDeletePoor little Mo--I hope he's been able to feel more comfortable...
Walking, and especially standing for any amount of time is so challenging--for me too. I totally get it...I've been trying to get in 10 min on the treadmill everyday to strengthen my legs--since the hosp. stay I am still weak..
Take car, stay warm, and enjoy your pretty flowers...hugs, Julierose
Thanks! The blocks, most of my old blocks and cutter remnants, come from a quilt dealer friend who has since passed away. He sold me my first batch of quilts at the flea market on Cape Cod. I had a running list w him of things I wanted.
DeleteDoing the treadmill is great, you had a difficult illness ad it seems to be something that lingers on. I've marked tomorrow for a good outdoor walk, but gale warnings have posted, I bet I stay in.
Have you had Mo tested for allergies? I had it done with my dog, Mr. Magoo, he is allergic to so many things. He kept getting gunky ears too, shaking his head a lot. I sent off a hair sample to my pet sensitivity, but there are many other ones. It cost around $50, my boss did it for his dog (ear problems too) and he found a coupon for some $ off.
ReplyDeleteI envy you living so close to the beach. I live in Oregon, just South of Salem, which is about an hour from the beach. I really enjoy going to the beach, it calms me so much. Enjoy your day. Kara
Blogger made me reply below, pls scroll down. Thanks so much!
DeleteThank you, Kara. I will do this testing right away. Mo has been tested and biopsied extensively but I m ready and willing to try something different. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteYes, I m so lucky to live at the beach. In recent years the weather has become very extreme tho, esp the high winds and constant power failures, so it can be challenging.
Thanks for visiting and for your helpful comment.
PS were you able to make changes that helped your dog?
Oh how wonderful to see Colour - it is so grey and dreary here but hey, we are into February and in March it's spring!! I have wild Primroses out at the bottom of the long holly hedge which has cheered me up.
ReplyDeleteI would be tempted to add a pop of colour to those mourning baskets. Hoping that Mo can be made more comfortable with his ears.
I see more snow is forecast - what a horrid winter America is having, everywhere.
Spring doesn't come here til June and only lasts a day or two, then it turns unbearably hot til November or Dec when we have a few days of Fall. lol.
DeleteI did audition a pop of color on the neutral Baskets. Haven't decided yet.
No snow, storm went out to sea or wore itself out---but windchill is -9*F . Sitting at my desk by north facing windows feels like being outdoors. -28* C windchill.
correction -23 C
DeleteSo pretty! I hope your strength continues to improve. I know it is challenging! I have a hard time keeping moving - if I sit very long I lose all momentum and desire to move! I think my body wants to hibernate this year.
ReplyDeleteBut I still feel much better than last year, so I will try to keep moving.
I hope you discover what may be affecting Mo's ears! That would be wonderful for him, and for you. Good luck!
Take care!
I find it best tomake the stretches etc part of daily routine---most mornings , much of the year, I go out on deck to get some sunshine after Mo has bfast and I do my little routine. //Im sure you keep pretty busy, new house, minding D, new dogs--lots going on!
DeleteThe tulips are gorgeous and so perfect for the bleak midwinter we're experiencing. Haven't seen any similar around here yet. Styling the red baskets with the tulips was lovely. I also love the neutral, brown and blue baskets you just started working on.. Little Mo looks so cozy in his hat and sweater. So sad that he continues to have the serious ear infections. They're predicting below zero temp and wind chill again tonight. We are so ready for spring to arrive.
