It's November! October was here and gone, like a much anticipated event that is over too fast, not even leaving memories.
I love November, it's such a beautiful golden month here. The leaves will begin to turn color next week, the sky is so blue, the dunes and marshes brilliant amber finally. It is a quiet month for me, no longer a time of planning joy filled holidays and gathering all one's loved ones around a glowing candlelit table.
Instead I try to focus on the moments of joy--the migratory warblers who feast on the holly and bay berries, the seabird flocks that rest and gather before continuing south. I enjoy the chillier days, to again sit indoors and sew at my machine---though warm days bring us right back out for deck time handwork. [Noah's animals are progressing nicely~].
The long drought and salt drenched winds put an early end to my potted garden. The zinnias will be sheared off this week. The marigolds are November-December stars.
Instead I am collecting seeds, to dry and store for another summer.
Hoarding the last oh so sweet tiny bouquets.
A few cold nights have made me feeling so chilled. ["no heat til January", or so I say]
Last night I made this old fashioned recipe from @shifferdiane on IG. A wonderfully easy and fast to make recipe. So many bread puddings have become so complex, absurd in this homely dish. [I added mushrooms.]
It was delicious and so warming.
But even with added steamed broc and cauli, it harked back to long ago days when a high fat high carb [white bread ciabatta!] meal was acceptable. I prob won't make it again. The time change is as always discombobulating. We were up so early these past couple days. Mo has adjusted better than me, though he has demanded extra meals at odd times. I divide his kibble ration and indulge him for a while. I can't bear to see a beloved creature go hungry. Here is Mo with his sitter, off to look for autumn roses or interesting scents?

gone to the beach...
super beach photos and little posies;)))
ReplyDeleteWe are blacking out tv for the next couple of days...no news at all!!
Somehow I feel October just flew by--soon we will be into the holiday mode once again.
I am in a rest period with any hand work...
hope all is well with you despite this ridiculous time change..
hugs, Julierose
I love the serenity of your beach photos, so beautiful. It's a lovely 70 degrees here today, we'll take more of those in November! I love voting in a small town on election day, knowing the poll workers, everyone smiling and laughing, the young mother with three children patiently showing them how the voting is done, each child being allowed to fill in one box as directed by mom on her ballot, a precious lesson in civic responsibility. We are a blessed nation.
ReplyDeleteI like what you said; "October was here and gone, like a much anticipated event that is over too fast, not even leaving memories."
ReplyDeleteThat kind of thing happens so often to me. I hurry through the month because there are always tasks to get done. . . things to accomplish. . . projects to finish. And then the month has expired and I don't even have pictures (let alone memories) of how I spent my days. I have a tendency to let things happen instead of making things happen. I need to be more purposeful and take more mental pictures of what transpires around here. The ocean pictures are so relaxing and soft. I enjoy the different bird migrations around here too, I'm looking forward to the dark eyed juncos returning.
The hydrangeas' colors are so subtle and ethereal. Just gorgeous!
ReplyDeletePost-covid is still sad when it comes to family gatherings. So sorry for you.
It's great you're saving seeds. Next year's flowers will be beautiful again. I think the dried flowers and seed heads/pods are beautiful, too.
Do you really not put on heat till January? We tried not putting on heat till November a few years ago and found ourselves wondering why we were freezing ourselves into discomfort.
Ohhh, the bread pudding looks delicious. I've always wondered about savory bread pudding but haven't tried it. Maybe I will. As an occasional (high carb, high fat) treat.
I dislike the time change, too. It seems a disruption in the continuity of our lives.
Your photos of the flowers against the cloudy sky are so beautiful.
You remind me a bit of Martha Stewart. Always trying new recipes, flower seeds, etc! I love that. I watched her Netflix documentary this week. I found it interesting, but I think she was a pretty sad woman.
