Good evening! Mo and I just returned from our sunset walk.
Every day we look for the famous green flash as the sun sinks below the horizon, but we never see it. Urban myth? Mo refused to wear his Rainbow sweater or his Christmas sweater!
Had a tantrum and hid in his bed!
It is a cold but still and clear crisp day, cold for December. We investigated all the public areas looking for greenery since I don't think I will get to the garden center or Trader Joe's this year. So far I collected only a handful of pine cones, but I think next week I can snip some holly and ??? cedar?, some ivy even.
This year there have been many holiday fairs again, something I so love! But my friend refused to go, she empathizes with the hopeful sellers and not buying makes her feel too bad. I'm feeling a bit hard hearted, it never occured to me. And the main town is having its first Christmas fair this year. I proposed this about ten years ago, things move slowly here. Tents with music, wine, food, hot chocolate--and yes crafts. I hope to fit that in. I let you know!
I did manage a bit of real life Christmas shopping. Home Goods of course.
Our fun constantly improving Dollar Store was wonderful. [oh okay Five Dollar store, new nuance to the phrase five and ten, right?] So festive. This was a bit of a rush job trip for stocking stuffers and Christmas gift holders for the ubiquitous NY tipping requirements. Do you tip---everybody?....or it's a local custom here?
Now that I'm looking at my pics I see things on the ornament walls I wish I'd had time to grab.
L snapped up the last Christmas lights necklace, it lights up and blinks! Jealous! Though I told her only she could make that look chic, in her black jeans, black cashmere sweater, and black suede flats.

Fun fad this year is the popularity of cardboard putz houses, both vintage and new. I love this IG poster's brightly painted modern versions. [what's a putz house? click here
Amazon has blanks:

And from my brother, one of his beautiful Historic Williamsburg inspired wreaths he creates each year. All fresh fruits and greens. If we lived closer I'd ask him to make me one with a Welcome Pineapple.
PS The Angel doll is almost complete. I will show you pics, as Nancy asked, after she is delivered, so as not to spoil the anticipation for her purchaser.
Have a good week. stay well.
love

gone to the beach.....
Seems the dollar stores everywhere have succumbed to inflation, our local one is now 1.25 for everything. I still wrap gifts, hence the recent dollar store visit. Since we've decided not to do an indoor tree anymore I packed up about half of our tree ornaments for my son and DIL who will be visiting on Christmas eve. There are a precious few that the kids will have to pry out of my cold dead hands, but otherwise ...
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to our new Dollar General store (get it? Dollar prices AND a general store where the prices are normal all in one) .
ReplyDeleteI love that last sky picture you took-- so pretty...
It's darn cold here with a lot of wind this morning--I am staying right indoors, but Tom has to go out--he said he will bring back Chinese take out for lunch for us..looking forward to that..
I only wrap a couple gifts for the two young grandgirls--the older grands get checks to spend as they wish...
Stay warm out there---hugs, Julierose

ReplyDeleteYour angel doll is looking good. Oh I love that natural look of your brother's wreath. I've never heard of putz houses before now. Tipping - in Japan, there is absolutely no tipping, so I'm getting used to that again here. Wonderful that your town has a holiday market!
ReplyDeleteYour brother's wreath is wonderful. Wouldn't it be a hit with the monkeys over here! Just the best.
ReplyDeleteI'm about to catch up on Putz houses which are new to me as well. So interesting.
Thank you for the lovely beach shots.
I don't know Mo or even much about pugs but it's surprising that a fellow with that adorable face could throw a tantrum. Dear boy!
ReplyDeleteI really like that you have a plate for your finds from nature.
I hope you were able to go to the Christmas fair. We used to love to go to the historical society's Ohio Village on the day after Thanksgiving when they had a little fair--all old-style items and many handmade. I still have and use some sweet gifts from my daughters.
Oh, Home Goods. I have yet to make it to that store. One of these days I will go. We still wrap gifts, too.
Your brother's wreath is gorgeous, and I love the string of cards hanging below it.
Did my comment come through? I can't tell.... (And it was such a long one, too.)
