It's a scrumptious summer day here!
Every summer day we wish away, yearning for ''cozy crisp autumn", is a day lost forever---a day unsavored, a day closer to what I call the long cold lonely winter, and a day closer to the end of our time here on earth. It is essential, I believe, to enjoy and value each day--for what it is, not for what the internet tells us it should be.
That said Mo and I have had a few less than perfect days.
Yesterday we were immediately driven off the deck by swarms of biting gnats and yellow jacket wasps.
My neighbor has a fig tree with a lot of unharvested ripe-to-rotting fruits and it is really a wasp magnet.
poor Mo!
Then today the peaceful silence was broken by the stench of diesel? leaf blowers and plumes of toxic dust from outdoor tile cutting for a nearby rehab. The tile guys wear respirators, but Mo and I had to come indoors or risk lung damage. below, Mo guarding us from the tile guys!
As a tiny nod to September halfway point, I changed my coffee table runner from this much-loved old runner in Caribbean blue,
to the darker indigo runner made with seashell toile and Japanese indigos. Also moved the big wicker pineapple into the dark antique wooden bowl. That's it til October 15!
This week was my bimonthly IV clinic day at a new location. My friend drove me to help me find the place. There actually was a small amount of parking--a two-hour towaway zone lot, as is street parking there. The treatment takes 4 hours; how awful to come out [in the future] and find one's car towed.
Over the weekend I worked to get Giraffe ready for quilting as I recuperate, but no.
I decided I was too foggy and could not do nice enough work on Girafe, especially starting in the center, very visible.
So I dug out a very old project.
I was reminded of this cutie by Lori's new sewalong. This Scotties quilt is from Little Quilts too.
I never considered it a UFO, an unfinished project, as I had made it celebrating my previous Pug, even though he was not a Scottie.
And when he died I was so heartbroken and set this aside.
Now I can finish it maybe. Poor quilting will go lost in that black plaid. The Doggies are all quilted, just a 1/2" section left undone. It is so old I see I was trying out the machine buttonhole stitching on my then-new/now-old Brother machine. Maybe I'll add a pug plushie and give it to a little girl for Christmas.
Here is my new morning tea book. I love it though it is very repetitious. From Amazon used books.
My beach doesn't have much plastic; I don't think I ever found a Lego piece there.
This is last week's doodle/scribble page.
I was so excited to have a hummingbird come to my cannas. Maybe they are migrating?
Less excited to keep seeing these posts on my weather feed. Far away, yes, but ya never know. This week we are watching Fiona.
Back soon, enjoy these September days.
love
lizzy
gone to the beach...
Ouch--sorry about those awful wasps and gnats that drove you both inside!! We have wasps here, too and they can be very pesky....
ReplyDeleteI love that little scottie piece--so cute!!
We are enjoying these last lovely days of Summer into Fall...
the latest Tropical Storm is named Fiona --my granddaughter's name!:000
Hoping it makes a right hand turn out to sea...
No sewing here for a few days--just too tired
on new meds...Hope you are feeling better now hugs, julierose
Pumpkins as decorations don't enter my mind until at least October and sometimes later! I know the stores have everything fall right now but I can wait. I love September, especially when the weather is as pleasant as it is so far this month--mid-70s in the day, 60s at night. Perfect!
ReplyDeleteOh, awful to have gnats and wasps, especially so close to home and so many. I don't know if the fumes from the tile cutters are worse than the bugs or not but, either way, poor you and Mo!
Parking at your clinic is a sad state of affairs. You'd think they'd be considerate of their patrons' needs.
I'm so glad you don't have to rush with the giraffe block. I find it hard to make progress when I don't feel well. Better to rest and take it easy so you don't make mistakes when you do work on giraffe.
The Scotties are just too cute! The older/old-style fabrics are delightful.
I think I usually say "Legos" for the plural (though maybe sometimes Lego blocks--not sure) though I know the company insists that's wrong and that people use only "Lego."
Your doodle page has it all. Hooray for the hummingbird!
So sorry a friend dropped you on FB. I don't think there's a way to tell but I'm not sure. I don't keep count of #s on FB but I do notice if someone unfollows one of my blogs. I feel sad when that happens.
I love your kite pillow. Janet Bolton?
We are having so much rain. It will be lovely to see some warmer Spring/ Summer weather.
ReplyDeleteWe move house on Monday. It has been a long drawn out, frustrating, nerve wracking time but we are almost there. The sewing room will be set up soon and I can look and smooth (pat) my fabric as I unpack.
Reading blogs and IG posts have kept me going meantime and your photos are always lovely.
I think this is you, Dorothy. How wonderful to have a new house, all clean fresh and inviting! Best wishes for much happiness there.
DeleteYour clinic needs to have special decals or signs to place on dashboards for those patients whose treatments take longer than 2 hours, plus they need to let the local parking 'authorities' know the situation of their patients. I always love to see your indigo runner come out for the change of seasons. We'll be heading to our favorite produce barn soon to get our winter squash and pie pumpkins and maybe a few mums. Low temp this morning was 39 - fall is in the air!
ReplyDeleteI love the cooler fall weather but I could do without the pollen!
ReplyDeleteI agree with QB - the clinic should have some kind of card or sticker for the IV patients, so their cars don't get towed while they're getting their treatment! It really seems like a bad choice of location, poor business decision!
I love both the giraffe and the Scottie quilt tops! My brother and his wife had Scottie dogs for years.
So cool you had a visiting hummingbird! They are so fun to watch. Your drawing looks like a ruby-throated hummingbird and we usually have those here, so maybe they are migrating, although it seems a little early for that.
Your journal pages are so interesting and I love seeing your art. Hmm, Lego or Legos? I have always said Legos, a single piece is a Lego to me. Although art projects with them are "Lego art"... but it's "Pick up your Legos!" at home, lol! Haha, not something I've ever really thought about!
Love the blue skies! I hope you and Mo get to enjoy lots of deck time before it gets too cool out. And hope that the hurricanes stay away! I though hurricane season was October through December - starting early or do I have it in my head wrong? Either way, I hope you don't have to deal with nasty storms this fall/winter!
Take care!
Hurricane season is April thru November, early December. Most storms are August thru November.
DeleteHah! No pumpkins till October, indeed! Some of our stores have Christmas stuff out. It had been unbearably hot and humid here for a couple of weeks, so to see Christmas items being displayed was odd.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, you patients should all speak to the office manager of the clinic. There should be something they can do.
Blogger is being weird, gonna sign off before my comment disappears.
Kel
Hoping you're feeling stronger after your treatment.
ReplyDeleteThe giraffe quilt is such fun, especially those tones of reds around the centre.
I can never have enough of your cheerful deck zinnias. Real quilt colours!
I'm intrigued by the Lego book which I'm going to seek out. Wouldn't your sketches make a delightful 'At the Beach 'book? How about some 'still life' drawings of Mo. He'd be the perfect model and keep his relaxed poses for ages! Keep well.
