A New Years Walk

Happy New Year, friends. A new year means a beach walk, I have done this every year, for many years. The day is cloudy with some wispy fog, but not cold. So come with me and enjoy the fresh salty air of 2022.

J loved the tiny paw prints that appeared under the 2.

Walking through the dunes, the wet fog-dripping weeds were beautiful in the winter neutrals.

A secret pathway through the dunes, many tiny foot prints. It is well traveled. Beyond is an occasional wet swale. Maybe they go there for drinking water, though I always thought that water was salty.

Still greeted by the funny vintage Par Duck herds, though 2020's inspiring shell installation is long gone, swept away by the wind and rain.

The winter beach and low winter sun.

On the way home, this forsythia , an ancient specimen, is confused by the warm days and is trying to welcome spring. Sweet or sad? I'm not sure.

Mr Mockingbird has returned to the now bare ugly locust tree, as he has done for many years. Who knew birds live so long and in such harsh conditions. He must be 15 years old or more. Nests in the dune pine, above/ top; winters outside my window.

....

My cottage is mostly serenely blue and white again. I put away all the very Christmassy things, but I keep a few much loved items out for early winter.

gone to the beach....

PS This amused me on I think, Instagram. My words were...purpose/ family/connection/ change. Not thrilled with change, though the hopeful saying : "change for the better" springs to mind.

  1. Lots of beautiful pictures! I couldn't see the footprints well enough to tell what they were - cats? Dogs? Raccoons? I'm glad the weather cooperated and let you go out for your walk!

    What are you knitting?

The word jumble is interesting. I wonder if it's really supposed to mean anything, or just something for fun? My words were creation, gratitude, alignment, and selfcare. Kind of weird.

I really hope 2022 is nicer to us all than the past couple years have been!! Sending good wishes your way for a great new year! Take care!

  2. Happy new year to you. Heavy downpours here yesterday and major flooding. Lots of clean-up now. I've seen several similar word lists on IG -- mine are connection, creation, health and gratitude. All words I can jibe with. Now back to cleaning. Take care.

  3. Just lovely Wintery beach photos...love the "natural" muted colors. Just so calming...
We are having much colder temps this morning and it is very windy sending our 30 degree temp to "feels like" 26--good day to stay inside...

  4. Your beach in wintertime is so lovely. Happy New Year! The ducks are so funny. I like the idea of picking a focus word for the year, though I can rarely pick just one.

  5. Connection, wade, health and strength! Make of that what you will. Connection to you through your blog at the beach where I long to wade in the surf which can only give one health and strength. Hahaha.
Your collection of beach browns are stunning together and the par ducks are such a happy, comical group. I wonder if they come to life at night and join the wildlife party on the beach?!*

All of the photos look so calm and serene. It's always fun to see the ducks. They sure have staying power :)

Cute knitting basket. What are you working on?
