Hello! Can you imagine it is Thanksgiving week already. Time flies, as the ancient saying goes.
Tonight as Mo and I had our pre-dinner walk at sunset, I was so encouraged to see that my neighbors still have their fall wreaths up, mums and pumpkins and gourds by the door. It was too dark for a photo but one neighbor has a wreath of brilliant autumn leaves, accented with pale pink hydrangeas and sheaves of wheat. Perfect.
From Southern California, Kelley [Kel] reports that in her beachside neighborhood, Christmas is in full swing.
When the Halloween excitement of October ebbs and November blows in, all blue skies and brisk winds, the dunes and marshes turn amber,
I evolve my home accents to a softer Fall palette, less orange, more ochre, taupe, some red, some brown. Have a look.
Quilts, some faded and worn, a more subtle, softer look.
The big wooden bowl, add/ subtract/ acorns and white pumpkins
to add interest and texture.
Kantha [India patchwork from saris], under the wooden bowl.
Nature journal collecting.
A winter field guide to identify weds, seeds, pods.
a favorite woodland
scene under glass--a Victorian craft. Lichen, moss, ferns, berries. Acorn cap nest.
I wish everyone joy in this holiday season.
love
lizzy
gone to the beach....
The fat belly and ballerina feet, all propped up and snoring, always make me laugh!
NO! i cannot wrap my head around the fact that Thanksgiving is a few days away. I have no idea what we will be doing to celebrate the day. Hmmmm.
ReplyDeleteThe wreath of Fall leaves and pink hydrangeas sounds really pretty. If you do have the chance to snap a pic, I would like to see it :)
The quilts on your bed are so pretty, and perfect for the season. Oh my gosh, I just had an idea! Could you have like a curtain rod, or something similar hung behind your bed that you could hang quilts on,for display? That nice big wall would be perfect for it, and it doesn't look like you have a tall headboard that would get in the way?
Let's look for a pair of baby ballet slippers for Mo...just for a photo op ;) I'm sure he wouldn't mind :)
Love all the pictures. I especially like the five patch quilt with corner stones. The colors are fantastic. Such a simple quilt and so attractive. Happy Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you enjoyed my holiday post. The quilt you like is a favorite of mine; my mom spied it while we were antiquing one afternoon in Cape Cod.
DeleteHappy Thanksgiving! I always love seeing yore quilts and decor!
ReplyDeleteI always love to see your change of seasons vignettes. Not to mention all your wonderful cheddar quilts. The last two quilted turkeys made me smile not to mention the big white pumpkin in the brown bowl on the once-white chair! Happy Thanksgiving to you and Mo.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving to you and the Mo-ster!!:D
ReplyDeleteI love all your decorations...especially the Jan Patek (I think?) quilt--just gorgeous work on this one...I hope you week of holiday preps and enjoyments are wonderful. We will be just we two for turkey-lurkey dinner but will have a visit from my son and his family...early in the a.m.
so looking forward to that as I still cannot take long car trips...
i will be resting tomorrow after Big Y shop this morning that set me back a bit...but so it goes right?
Hope you are feeling well hugs, Julierose
Love Kel's ballet slipper idea for Mo, that would make some fun pictures!
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy seeing how you change things for seasons and holidays, you're so organized and your house always looks so nice! I'm not motivated enough, I've gotten lazy.
Love the log cabin quilt, have we seen it before? And the dark turkey on blue is really appealing to me.
Really love the fallen leaves picture. It seems like most leaves here just turned brown, again. Not much color here locally, and about 80% of the leaves on my maple tree fell off in less than a week - like only a couple days and whoosh they were all gone. Only benefit of the ceaseless Kansas wind - it blows the leaves mostly off our lot, lol.
We're having our Thanksgiving late, on Sunday. It just makes it easier!
Have a good holiday week, I hope you get to enjoy some family and friends time. Take care!
Though I love decorating for christmas, you always make me wish that I made more of an effort for the fall and Thankgiving time of the year!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful home colors for November, Lizzy. I love your bordered 9-patch quilt with the cheddar sashing and, of course, you applique quilt. And your turkeys at the end.
ReplyDeleteI'm a nut for collecting natural objects--leaves, seed pods, nuts, etc. I like your collections quite a lot. (There's one acorn that looks like it might be hand-made instead of nature-made?)
