August Beach Walks

Hi all! My friends' baby girl {"Baby Pineapples" baby] now throws kisses and waves, says "Bye bye, see ya!!" So let's bid this oddly disappointing August farewell. Bye bye!

Most of these photos were taken the day of, or the day after, Hurricane Henri, who bypassed us and fizzled himself off to Connecticut. Probably just as well, but so much time, effort, worry spent preparing for the mis-predicted calamity. Let's have a beach walk, to clear our hearts and souls!

I always enjoy studying the wild weeds and flowers of the dunes.

Grasses.

black eyed susans, a newcomer!

More grasses and grey-berried bay are proliferating this year.

Beach roses in all stages of bloom.

I love these starry rose hulls.

Look at these thorns. These pics are for Mel who always wants to know why I can't harvest the hips for tea! [also is illegal, and stealing food from the wild creatures and birds....]

A few days after Hugo, we finally hit 90* last Friday. Yes, for the beach, it was hot.

Mo has his little cave under a stored chair on the deck. I think these are his happiest hours with me.

Mo had the spa van come today. He is fluffy and smells so nice, but he is exhausted, poor mite.

Needs a good brushing still, hmmm.

And here is an accumulation of oddities Mo and I picked up over the summer. Due to the roadworks and scary trucks, our usual routes with good finds are not accessible.

These two clasps or closures are interesting and different though. The tin butterfly fell off my garden stake, but I left it because it was in my pocket with the other metal junk.

Off topic, I am compiling a journal timeline of the Covid year[s]. I had to look some things up---vaccines in April, NYS restriction gone June 15. With fireworks. Six weeks later we are back in masks, distancing, cancelling, fearful and losing hope [or at least I am]. Booster? Hope it works. I am very disillusioned right now, as my dreams of celebrating fall holidays fade. I wore my Summer celebration bracelets anyway.

I never got to use my straw market tote with the camel pompoms.

On a happier note--- Below, delicious fresh produce from a friend. That tomato! Oh my!

Oh well. Each day is a new day, a gift. Each season , each year, a new opportunity. That is my mantra.

love

gone to the beach...

  1. Fun beach finds! That pink shell is beautiful. And so is the butterfly, of course.
I would stay away from those rose thorns, too, except I might want to examine those interesting starry rose hulls.
This Covid mess has been so unsettling. I hear such contradictory things. I hope it stays far from you!
I also hope Hurricane Ida doesn't reach your area. Such devastation down south.

  2. Your photos are always so fun to see. I agree - COVID is still so disheartening. If everyone who can be vaccinated, will get vaccinated, we'd be much further along the road to normalcy.

  3. I am finding there's much to be disillusioned about in this world. Very hot and so humid here lately so it's not very enjoyable to get outside. I had started an actual junk journal with things I found when picking up trash. Hoping that with September there will be better temps ahead and more time or walking. Take care.

  4. That pink/lavender shell is a gorgeous little fan of colors...
It's been a dreary Summer here, too; gray days and humidity in full force. Covid boosters not available for us as yet; it goes on and on --very discouraging times...not the least of which are the unsettling news reports and naysayers...

We can only do what we can; keep masking and distancing and try to maintain hope that a kinder gentler ethos will prevail...
    Hope springs eternal...
    Stay safe hugs, Julierose

  5. Beach walks are always so calming to the spirit. Your pinky-purple seashell is a real treasure. Our heat/humidity spell broke last night and temps were a refreshing 57 this morning when I arose before 6. Apparently Ida may pay this end of our county a visit tomorrow, though we are on the very fringe of the anticipated strike area. Still, we really don't need/want any more rain just now. Enjoy the rest of your summer beach weather, and don't let the fear-mongers steal your joy!!

  6. I'm glad Henri missed you, even though all the prep is a pain. Better to prep and not NEED it, etc.

Love the pictures - and yikes! that's a lot of thorns!

Eventually covid is going to be just another annoying virus (like the flu), probably with yearly vaccines. I don't think it will go away no matter how many people get vaccinated. We wouldn't be that lucky!

Mo looks happy all stretched out in various locations. It got hot here for several days, too - and I can't believe August is almost over already! Where has the time gone?

Hope the rest of your week goes well!

  7. Seems like every day is a surprise! Not always good ones. Our early heat wave in June and left August chilly and lower temps. I'd much rather have it reversed. My plants are confused! I have Mexican Hat seeds ready to mail- going out today.

  8. Beautiful beach photos. It's easy to feel like I'm there. Egads, those rose thorns are not playin'!

    Fun little finds.

I am having a hard time even remembering when I was off work, when I went back, when I was off again... It's almost hard to think back to when we weren't all in this limbo. I hope there comes a day when it is really and truly in the rear-view mirror.
