June! ~ Deck Garden Project and other Little Stuff

Hi everyone! Are you happy to welcome June to our midst? June here is hot, cold, and very rainy. Bugs emerge from hiding, eeew. I am terrified of bugs, yep it's a phobia. The seeds in the garden are sprouting and flourishing. Last weekend's rain really got them going.

Need to try to thin and transplant! These are my zinnias.

Nasturtiums.

The coreopsis is beginning to bloom. Year five, I think. They self seed.

The lilies are slowly growing. This is perhaps their 10th year?

The pumpkins seeds sprouted! How fun if  grew a real jackolantern.

The Mexican Hats seeds from Lori D  are small but look good. Wildflowers rarely transplant well, I will wait a bit.

And what are these odd blue flowers? I planted bachelor buttons last summer, with no result? But these aren't bachelor buttons.

More mystery weeds in this pot.

I do love my garden art.

I painted this ladybug to brighten her red wings.

Looks like Mr Sunshine needs a touch up too.

And this is a new art glass Hen. My kids knew I wanted her after I saw them at Home Goods and got m this one. It is darling! Has a solar battery and will light up someday, once activated and the sun shines.

The pansies love the cold and rain. Very rewarding little flowers, as always.

The colors bring me such joy. This blue!

Mo is very happy to be out again, enjoying his chair and cushion every day. Of course he always chooses MY chair.

"Will there be ice cream, mommy?"

I finished this Tiny Baskets quilt, only 3' square. I had forgotten its button flowers. Not sure what purpose it serves, though I did want to practice making tiny fine binding.

It has a little display clipboard, magnetized for hanging.

And. I started Julie Porter's new sewalong [FB Farmhouse Cottons Freebies] but I do not like my first House. Need to reconsider or set aside. Her sample blocks are reds and browns/ tans, a favorite combination of mine. But also, as always, I'm finding it hard to understand her patterns. I only do well when I redraw patterns myself. Hahaha the roof is like a too small hat!

Oh, I almost forgot the big new: today when L and ran errands, NONE of the cashiers or checkout persons wore masks! I could see smiles. And the grocery lady packed my reusable bags. Wow. Return to normal? L and I wore our masks anyway, tho we are vaccinated fully.  But then we went to a medical lab for bloodwork for me and there it was all masks and distancing/ no seating. Line out on the sidewalk, glad the rain had lightened up. Masks make my glasses fog up, so it was very hard to see the check in screen or the paperwork. Is there some reason we cannot have slightly larger darker print?

have a good weekend!

love

  4. Wow, your deck flowers look GREAT! I think that odd blue flower IS a bachelor's button, just a very full variety. The only other thing I can think of that looks similar is scabiosa, and they look a little different. Your hen is very cute, hope you get enough sun to light it up soon!

The tiny quilt is adorable! It would be fun to hang it somewhere unexpected, so when you see it it'll make you smile. On the door in your room? Inside a cupboard door so you see it when you reach for a glass? On the fridge? Lots of possibilities.

Yes, the poor house needs a different roof! LOL, I have this wild urge to say make it a pagoda roof... I have no idea where that came from!

Of course Mo wants to sit in your chair! Any time I get up, one of the cats takes over my spot!

Oh, and isn't it so nice to see people's faces again! It was so hard to tell if people were smiling or grumpy with masks on!

Take care and have a good weekend!

  5. Your deck flowers always look so good! I have a hard time remembering to water mine still this year. Love the little basket mini. Good idea to hang it with a clip. We are enjoying seeing peoples faces and smiles again too. Wonderful for the littles and the elderly especially!

  6. You do such a great job with container gardening, Lizzy. Your plants and flowers are all growing so well! Pansies are such sweet flowers.
I looked at the sew-along for Farmhouse Cottons and decided against it, at least for now. As you said, there's something about her patterns. They're not as straightforward as Cheri's. The thing is, by the time everyone has finished their blocks I'll fall in love with their quilts and wish I'd made one, too. Oh, well.
I haven't been out without a mask yet. I hate wearing them but it's become such a habit.
Your beach photos make me want to be at the ocean!

  7. Your deck is always a colourful riot! You really have a great germination rate. The lilies really excell themselves with you.
I do love Mo's 'please don't move me' look! So funny.
The clipboard with tiny quilt is wonderful and tempts me to make a really small quilt - never thought of making one before. As Melody says, perfect for moving it around. I fancy that.

  8. Such a TINY quilt! I knew it was little, but three inches is teeny. My gosh, and the sweet buttons, so very cute. I like Mel's idea for it.

Glad you and Mo are spending regular time out on the deck. The flowers are doing great so far. It all looks very happy, and very welcoming. I ate my first blackberry from my shrub this week...it was good...now waiting for the other four (berries) to ripen...lol!

Our state is doing masks until the 15th. Outdooors, in public, we are done with them, though. It IS nice to see smiles :)

Hope you had a lovely weekend. Saw it was quite hot over there!
