Out & About ~ Spring Shopping

Good morning! Last week I was able to go out for a short but thrilling visit to Home Goods! Always enjoyable, the outing was extra fun as I was feeling very cooped up and cabin fever. Retail shopping is now considered fairly safe, as we wait for vaccine appointments.

Home Goods was abundantly stocked and rather busy.:

Lovely handblown glass. The wind would demolish this birdbath, but so pretty.

I was so sorry I forgot to get one of these darling Hen garden stakes for my zinnia pot.

Cutie Lady Bug, never saw an art glass ladybug before.

Easter, pretty but not as much as I expected.

I loved the Bunnies of all kinds.

I'd have bought this bowl if the bunnies weren't broken, too bad.

Not much coastal or summer:

They did have the tall lanterns, see previous post, but not as charming as my neighbors' and very expensive. Large and bulky  when seen up close also.

Fun metal holder and milk bottles. Not at all a new idea but cute for summer farmers market flowers?

Throw pillows for spring into summer updates. Indigoes and tribal black and white. Oooo, polka dots, pompoms, ikat! Must go back.

What I got:

Metal tray for sewing/ quilt blocks/ lavender stuffing. The sweet utensils are just a go-with but I'll use them.

Prep bowl set, always needed.

Treat canister for Mo, instead of that ugly red lidded Rubbermaid box.

Great oilcloth big totes! For shopping, though I may go back for more to make a cover for my patio table. 99 cents!

Pink is usefully insulated for summer groceries.

Adorable spring cooky cutters for my someday gramma's hope chest. Maybe the next generation will like baking with me? The bee can be a lady bug too.

Very large canvas bin. a FIND! I've been watching for these for two years since I had to pass one up, unable to fit into B's little car.

It will replace the ugly cardboard box here in the sewing room. I store bed linens and pillows and quilt batting. The little sewing room serves as a make do guest room sometimes.

Trader Joe's is right next to Home Goods so I was able to shop there for the first time in over a year.

I do love their checkout and fresh, clean,  strong paper bags. [One of the many small annoyances here of the pandemic is that most stores offer only flimsy paper bags 10 cents each or we bring our own---BUT no help packing or loading from the cashier. Maybe not a bad thing as my supermarket checker last week was eating Cheese Doodles and drinking Mountain Dew, under a pulled down mask, licking her Cheese Doodle-y orange fingers! Behind her plexiglass wall but eeew, ick. I hated her even touching my items to scan.]

Trader Joe's had their usual perfect and profusely catkin'ed pussy willow branches, 4.99. AND a big tub of ranunculus. So hard to choose!

Delicious cheeses, including their well priced ripe! Brie and a cheddar-Gruyere cheese to try. Ugly asparagus, nice lettuces. I tried the frozen Pad Thai bowl too---gloppy and too spicy. A Fail. Surly shoppers and a bit crowded.

Remember the Zoom virtual shower? A partial fail. I had two devices all ready to go. The event was on Google Meets, not Zoom. And many of us couldn't sign in. Disappointing.

Hi from Mo who enjoys the sun even on the coldest mornings.

Have a good week!

gone to the beach....

The big trucks are back and as aggressive as ever! And the wooden walkway has been removed for repairs, so the it's a hard trek to the shore. Here is a photo from a few years ago. I hope the wind calms by Wednesday so I can go down to greet my  returning Oystercatchers when they appear on St Paddy's Day. Best sign of spring for me. [birds, not the trucks!]

  2. You hit the jackpot with Mo's new treat cannister, love it! Probably just as well we have neither Home Goods nor Trader Joe's anywhere near to us, I don't need any more temptations beyond my fascination with antique cupboards, lol. The new food craze in our household is hummus, even Sammy kitten loves it!

  3. How lovely it was to come shopping with you. The items reminded me of the selection we get in TK-Maxx and also in good garden centre stores. Loved the glass chickens - hope you can get one next time. The Ranunculus are lovely - I couldn't have resisted those either!

    1. You have very sharp shopping eyes! Home Goods is owned by the same corporation as your TK-Maxx, here it is TJ Maxx and Marshall's. Marshall's actually has better home items at times but it's not as Covid safe as the HG store, which is big and airy. I wish I could send you a glass chicken for your new home's garden.
I'm enjoying the ranunculas, love them.

    2. Ah, I thought the stuff looked familiar. A good range. I've not been in TK-Maxx since early last November - one forlorn shopping trip for Christmas stuff and then we pulled up the drawbridge! Know what you mean about feeling safer in big airy shops - no-one in towns seems to bother with social distancing. In our little town, I am normally the only customer, or one or two others, in a shop and that feels safe. I had to go into Lidl in Brecon and that was busier and no-one spacing out to social distance, so glad to get out! I wonder if there is something like the glass chicken in our (expensive trendy! but so tempting) Garden Centre at Three Cocks? It opens next week so I will wait for the furore of the first week or so and go and investigate :)

  5. Very nice that you got out shopping! And you found some cool stuff. I love pretty much everything you bought, especially those shopping bags and the treat jar! I hope they still have the glass hens when you get to go back, they were cute - and the pillows, too. Hard to choose, indeed! The big canvas tote is very nice, looks sturdy and very handy and much more appealing than a cardboard box (and probably easier to move if necessary).

Very few places here have cut flowers, and I don't think I've ever seen them include ranunculas, which are so pretty! So MANY petals on those flowers!

We've had several days of drippy dismal days, back in the chilly temperatures but not truly cold. Combo of chill and damp is NOT good for my knees, though, or my hip! Today it cleared off and warmed up a little but I think the rain is supposed to be back tomorrow - maybe as some storms. March came in fairly 'calm' here, but I really hope we get to skip the 'goes out like a lion' part!

Hoping you get warmer and sunnier days soon! I know you and Mo would both enjoy that!

  6. It must have been such a thrill to get out shopping, and you got some great finds. Practical and pretty items. Scrolling through your images, and especially the flowers, really gives a "spring is in the air" feeling!

  7. Such a good haul after your shopping spree. Your sewing pan is a great size for projects. My best are the pineapple totes! A marvellous ideea for a table cover.
Looking forward to seeing your Oyster Catchers.

  8. Yay! Glad you had a day out! Looks like you made up for lost time ;) I went to a pet supply store today. There was Home Goods store in the same center. I talked myself out of going in because I assumed it might be crowded. NOW, I'm regreting that decision. I especially like the totes, and that canister for Mo's treats.

Aaaargh, packing up my own groceries gets me in such a state. I'm starting to experience the occasional offer from the checker to do it. When I have to do it myself, I've started to just put my items back in my grocery cart, then bag them up once I'm out of the way. Less pressure that way.

I hope you made it out to see the return of the Oystercatchers!
