Snow Days

Hi guys. Here we are on this Monday night, snowed in and crazy.

Whatever happened to snow days, they used to be so fun? Hot chocolate, oatmeal cookies, red cheeks and wet woolen mittens. Those days are gone.

I can't get any of the doors open! All have drifts up past the door handles. Can't expect anyone to come dig us out, the roads are closed. My car has died an untimely death, so if flooding occurs or the power goes out, Baby Mo and I are stuck here, waiting to freeze to death. [If only in my dire imagination.] So much for counting on my Jeep always. .Its computer/ dashboard went berserk Sunday, a reaction to  those coldest days, Thursday, Friday. And you know, it really wasn't all that freakin cold, mid-20s. [The gale winds made it awful but that shouldn't affect a car. My Jeep was serviced and winterized just six weeks ago, too]. I am upset, stranded, disappointed. My friend will try to come Wednesday or Thursday to work on my car, no worries.

Mo too is very unhappy and confused. Even if he cannot go out he likes to peek out and decide for himself. But the doors, as mentioned, are firmly drifted shut with heavy wet snow, about chest high on a human. And he refuses to use his potty pads, poor little man.

In honor of the coming snow, yesterday I made pot-roast in my new Crockpot. The result was---I'd give it a D-, not a Fail because the beef tasted good. But it fell apart in dry dry dry strings. And the veggies were grey. Needed some of that browning stuff my mom secretly used: Kitchen Bouquet? Edible if the power goes and/ or if I have no car to drive to the store. But I expect more than that from a labor intensive and fairly expensive meal. Recipe link, previous post.

And did I mention my Kindle died? My friend had an extra, brought it over yesterday when my car went wacko. Who has an extra unopened Kindle just lying around anyway? They cost about $175.oo with new chargers. I was amazed.

I am rereading all the early Robert Parker Spenser books. LOL--- they have car phones! Kindle is pretty awesome how one's library just appears on the new device, like magic. But the Spenser books are before my time, before Kindle time, so not in my archive, not free.

................................................................................................

The past week I worked on a few white linen hearts. [sold]

and a couple more suncatchers.

More to come. Made when ordered, so email me if you want a rusty heart suncatcher. I only have two or three to offer.

This is my Weird Collections haul from January alone. I always think that rain/ snow/ windy weather make the odd disks rise to the surface.

How strange.

Wonder what will show up when the snow melts this February.

How much snow did you get?

love

  1. Oh Lizzy, I do hope you're remaining safe and warm until that snow melts or someone can clear a way to your doors. It's always scary to be so stranded because of dire weather conditions.

  2. We ended up getting 13" of the white stuff!! Then it rained--horizontally in that wind yikes what a storm!! Our plow guy just came and cleared the drive (and walk!!)
I hope you and Mo are ok --it must have been gale force where you are!!
    Still blowing here today...18-20 mph
Last night I fought a migraine while listening to the howling winds 37-50 mph here...
Better today, but still feeling a bit of it...
I was able to finish up the first 30 log cabins and they are up on my wall marinating.
Take care: stay warm, stay safe and stay home ;)))my new mantra Hugs Julierose
P.S. Oh and I sent for a paperwhites kit--I need a little Spring around here!!

  3. Your pics through the windows are stunning. I hope you are past any flood and wind danger. Hope the electricity holds, also.

Oh man, your car issue! That's terrible timing. You just mentioned that it is almost time to turn it in, too. Hope it gets sorted soon.

Ugh, sorry the crock pot meal didn't turn out well. I think modern day cookers are so much hotter than older models that it's harder to keep meals from over cooking.

Your linen hearts and the sun catchers turned out really cute!

    You keep safe!

  4. Wow, that's a LOT of snow!!! What was the offical snowfall amount? Drifts can be interesting to look at but can also be VERY annoying! I hope someone gets your doors open soon - and your car fixed! Everything had to happen at once, huh. I'm sorry to hear your pot roast didn't come out very good. I'll have to go back and look at the recipe, see if I can offer any advice. One thing I learned is to never but the veggies in at the same time as the meat, as they cook faster and turn into mush before the meat gets tender! Talk to you soon!

  5. What a snow!! I hope you get cleared out and car working again soon. It's not a great feeling to be somewhat stranded. Your photos are so pretty. Your linen and sun catcher hearts are so rustically charming. No snow here - yesterday it was sunny and 60 degrees!

  6. Thinking of you and Mo so much. Maddening things always pile up together.
Your sun catchers and linen hearts are lovely.
I have to look for Robert Parker Spenser books. Always great to have new authors to look up.
Mo looks so snug in his grey and white outfit.

  7. We had a bit of snow the weekend before last, but just enough to cover everything and make it look beautiful - an inch or two. It didn't last long and was gone a couple of days later.

I hope your car can get sorted soon - obviously it doesn't care for the temperatures.

The up-to-date Kindles are quite pricey but Amazon sometimes does a special offer on the older models and they are affordable then. I don't use mine a great deal for reading, but am coming round to the idea (having been heaving boxes of books around with our move. For novels they are a good idea.)

Sorry that your pot roast wasn't as you planned. I use gravy granules to thicken at the last moment. Definitely add veg later so it survives cooking!

    1. Hi! I have been in awe of your energy with your big move! And your light snow was lovely, what a beautiful place you live in.

So---I have a fragile flower of a Jeep! Not supposed to happen. LOL.

I ll prob keep trying w the crockpot, unless I get annoyed at its bulk and have nowhere for it to be stored. I did add the veggies later; t still too early. The recipe had no suggestions of when was a good time.

      best wishes

  8. So sorry about your car! Boy is that a lot of snow! We woke to a snow storm this morn but it was only about 3 inches. I was of course super happy. I love your hearts. I still love the two sets I bought a few years back. Take care! Kit

  9. Oh, Lizzy, the first few paragraphs of this post -- I'm so sorry. What challenges you face/faced. I hope your Jeep is working now and that you've been able to get outside. I heard on the news tonight that another snowstorm is headed your way. I hope you're staying warm!
Your hearts are just beautiful. I love the additions to them. Did you draw the lettering or was it pre-printed? Either way, just gorgeous!
