Labor Day Weekend

Hi everyone~ Summer's last big celebration is this weekend, menu at the end. Masks, social distancing, outdoors, blah blah blah.

But wait! Look what the mail lady brought, quilts back from my quilter, Lori C.

Her work is beautiful as always.

Not thrilled with the Baby Pineapples' lack of contrast; this is a commissioned quilt and they asked for grey instead of my untended white.

I hope this doesn't get used as a dropcloth, but ya never know.

While I was waiting for these to return I started a tiny hand project. Here is Starry Eyed Jack.

For tomorrow's pre-holiday BBQ I was planning my special brisket burgers, recipe at the end. And I bought peach pie. But since the guest list has grown I imagine someone will bring gelato instead. I'll put the pie in the freezer, I think. And I very much doubt anyone one will want the burgers as planned..but maybe I can have mine?

have a good weekend!

I am not invited, mommy?

  2. Your special burgers sound wonderful! And who says a holiday meal can't have two desserts?! Mo can come to visit here, we're going to have around 12 people of all ages visiting and camping in the back yard, plus five more dogs, he'd have a blast! Looking forward to seeing your new quilt finishes...after the holiday.

  4. I love the big flowers quilting pattern on the pineapple quilt (and I like the gray, too). And the Jack is adorable! Is he going to be part of something large or a stand-alone piece?

You are so patient - it would drive me nuts if my guests just decided to change my menu all the time. I think I'd just decorate and tell them THEY had to bring the food! I do hope you can have a good time anyway - you can save your yummy burgers all for yourself, and the pie, too!

    Have a great weekend!

  5. Your quilter did a nice job on your quilts, Lizzy. How I love your through the seasons quilt (whose real name I've forgotten), especially that block with the flag. The flowers were an interesting choice for the pineapples but they look like flowers that grow in the same climate as the pineapples. I hope the client who asked you to make the pineapples loves it for years!
    Your jack is too fun!
    Happy Labor Day to you.

  6. I know what you mean about contrast - gray is so popular now. I do think it looks just fine! A soft fun usable quilt, what could be better. Yum your menu looks divine!

  7. Wow, I love the quilting on the pineapple quilt. I do like the grey, but I think I would maybe prefer white, too.

Hope the bbq turned out well. The burgers sound yummy. Hope you got to have one ;)

Was stupid hot here until today. Lots of smoke and ash from the fires :( I was a lazy bones for much of the weekend.
