In and Out , Out and About....

Hi friends, catching up after a somewhat dire weekend. First of all, Blogger was losing comments, and/or nor sending them on to me. I'm trying to fix that and do replies for the Friday post, but if I miss anyone, my apologies.

The more dire aspect, on Sunday morning I went to put Mo's halter on him and suddenly was in incredible excruciating, ''almost pass out'' pain! A flare up of my hip inflammation. My dog walker was again awol, as was my doctor, but friends did what they could to rally around and walk poor Baby Mo. I am doing somewhat better now. So no worries.

the ''my way'' batch of burgers

The good news is my BBQ with friends did work out on Saturday and my burgers were delicious. My friend made slaw using Trader Joe's slaw dressing, simple and so good; and there were homemade pickles!

So now, back to my previously planned post:

I was somewhat misleading when I said people here are not wearing masks. In the limited stores I visit, indoors, yes people wear masks. BUT no one wears them outdoors at all, which makes beach walking and dogwalking uncomfortable for me. Mo loves the renewed attention and offers of friendly pats, and there I am cringing away from unmasked neighbors. The virus is still out there, thousands die every single day---be considerate, be safe.

My shopping has only been to grocery, pharmacy, hardware stores, but last week L and I decided we really MUST try to shop for new underwear in person. I keep trying to order bras and panties online, waste of money! Same with shoes and I really do need new ugly dog walking  shoes for Mo-walks.

Off we went to Kohl's, L giggling that if we failed we'd have to ''go commando", a new-to-her phrase. [very familiar to us readers of Stephanie Plum mysteries, lol]. Means no underwear and no, I have no idea why commandos do not wear their boxer briefs. You'd think they'd like the extra layer...?

Kohl's was uncrowded. A nice guy, not a teenager, a real adult, directed us to the hand sanitizer then cleaned a cart for each of us as we watched.

Lines seemed long; there were spacing markers---but went much faster than the usual lines that keep me from being a regular shopper at Kohl's.

I also bought some tee shirts, desperate for some new tees that aren't just faded rags. They didn't fit so good though, not like Old Navy's and were much more expensive. Too bad.

I was especially sad that this stripe and the pineapple sprig one didn't fit right.

And the undergarments we each got were not of use either.
                                                        ..........................
Back home on the deck---after TS Isaias I thought my garden pots were hopeless. The wind tore out almost everything.

But it was very hot so I just left the pots, no clean up.

And now a month or so later, things are looking up.

This one is just weeds; I plan to discard the entire pot contents except the red lily bulbs.

 I don't think I'll ever get a pumpkin.

Seed update: the heirloom seeds from etsy didn't grow. The wildflower seeds from Botanicals did grow, most ruined by the storm. Gallardia, sunflowers, and goldenrod survived and still blooming. I'd love to save some of the gallardia seeds. I have not seen a single pollinator, bees or butterflies, all summer, tho the dragonflies migrated through  on August 20 and 30th.

The Burpee marigolds and Lilliput zinnias are trying hard, though now I cannot water them because of being in pain.

The pumpkin seeds from my friend sprouted and even flowered but are tiny and anemic.

Hopefully next year won't be so stingy and hopeless.

What's next? A trip to Home Goods for a spatula, a fried eggs pan, and a glass pumpkin for my collection? Is the fun worth the risk?

have a good week!

love

gone to the beach.....

Local version of a beach crowd, Labor Day weekend.

  1. So sorry to hear of your hip flare-up and hoping it calms down soon. Your burger BBQ sounded lovely, so glad you had that enjoyable evening before the hip flare. Your beach doesn't look at all crowded, I imagined it to be much more so with the holiday weekend. Maybe people are being a bit more cautious again, though it seems like the beach would be the last place someone would contract covid unless it were shoulder to shoulder crowded. Did you get the strong winds yesterday that we had in WNY? Lost power over most of our County for half the day. Thankfully we had extra fuel for the generator since we still had eight people (and five dogs) here for most of that time.

  2. Oh sorry that you are experiencing such pain--(I myself have been in a week-long battle with sciatica!! So I can empathize totally!!) .
Not being able to bend over can be so limiting!!
I am not chancing going to stores--though hubby has gone to Lowe's for necessary
items to keep himself busy (that is so important!! Go ahead ask me why hahaha)

We haven't done any take-out either--I am just not ready to entrust my health to strangers...
That being said--I am doing more and more embroideries and just loving them...and slowly sewing Courthouse Steps...when I can manage bending over Helga to sew...
Hope you are feeling better today...
    hugs, Julierose
Take care and rest that hip...

  3. Sorry to hear about your pain, and I hope you are feeling much better. Glad to hear your BBQ went decently (wish I could taste your burgers!).

Your poor flower pots after the big storm kind of look like mine do when it gets hot here - doesn't seem like any amount of watering will keep them from getting windburned and dried...well, maybe if I had a constant drip system! You just can't beat marigolds! And those peachy-pink zinnias with the inner tiny flowers are really cute!

I've been seeing jokes and memes that from now on, really bad times/situations will be called "2020 times". This sure has been a sucky year! I sincerely hope next year is better!

As for masks outdoors - I think outdoors you would be pretty safe. Sunlight kills germs, and outdoors you probably have a breeze that would keep any bad stuff from reaching you. So unless an unmasked person feels they need to stand on your toes to talk to you, you should be fairly safe - especially if you are wearing a mask.

Personally, I only put my mask on when I'm heading into a store or business, because mine make my glasses fog up pretty much no matter what I try, and I've had enough of not being able to see this year (cataract surgery right before lockdown....not fun).

Let me know how you're doing? Take care!

  4. I had a good chuckle about you searching for underware...lol I had to break down and finally go into a store for much needed socks. As long as you wear a mask and are careful I think going out now and then is fine. I think the biggest risk is being around people without masks and too close. Glad youre feeling better. Kit

  6. That's my bugaboo, too: no one wearing masks outdoors. You should if you're getting even remotely close to six feet from someone. Hope your hip feels better.

    1. Good t know others agree with me. Mo's leash is 6 feet long, if they;'re petting him, they are too close, in my opinion.

      Thanks for the good wishes.

  7. Sorry about your hip pain. Pain is the worst. Glad you got out to the stores. Kohls, ya - a mixed bag.

  8. So sorry your hip pain is flaring!
But you are braver than I to go for an in store outing!! Too bad you didn't find more that fit.

  9. Commiserations on your pain. A real nuisance.
Shopping online has been a mixed bag of experiences I've found. Some firms are positively life-enhancing, yet others are pretty dire! Buying shoes and clothes I find difficult online as I want to feel fabric and see exact colours.
Your deck pots are always a lovely bright surprise. Look after yourself and Mo. Penny

  10. That's so sad that your hip is causing you so much pain. I hope it's getting better, back to normal.
I'm not much of a shopper -- the stores never seem to have what I want. But I went to Kohl's with my daughter last week for something she wanted to get. It reinforced my dislike of shopping. But I like the shirts in your photo.
The flower in your first photo reminded me of Audrey's yellow and pink quilt that you like so much. Nature offers such interesting color combinations.
I hope Mo's doing better with his separation anxiety.

  11. Hope you're on the mend. Glad you enjoyed a nice bbq. I bet the burgers were wonderful.

Sorry you sort of struck out at Kohls. It's hard when you can't try on the clothes (not undies ;). I've been back and forth to kohls a handful of times because the sizing was wonky on shorts I bought.

That flower in the first pic! Nature is amazing.

  12. Great post, I can soooo relate. The numbers are still rising here yet I see fewer and fewer masks and they're seriously talking about dropping the orders to wear them. We stay home as much as possible and I'm on my second bra order lol. Lovely pictures, stay safe. Julie

    1. Good luck shopping! It is so hard to buy somethings sight unseen. This week I really must try again for walking shoes. Must be my fourth attempt. Thanks for visiting!
