~ October ~

Good morning, friends.

Welcome October, one of the year's finest months.

''October, tuck tiny candy bars in my pockets and carve my smile into a thousand pumpkins.... Merry October! ''

                        ~Rainbow Rowell (b.1973), Attachments, 2011

"October inherits summer's hand-me-downs: the last of the ironweed, its purple silken tatters turning brown, and the tiny starry white asters tumbling untidily on the ground like children rolling with laughter; stiff, drying black-eyed Susans whose dark eyes gleamed from July's roadsides; coneflowers with deep yellow petals surrounding brown pincushion centers from which bumblebees still are sipping honey.  The assignment of yellow is taken up now by thin-leafed wild sunflowers and artichokes."
-   Rachel Peden

"Well, it's a marvelous night for a Moondance
'Neath the cover of October skies
And all the leaves on the trees are falling
To the sound of the breezes that blow

-  Van Morrison, Moondance

  2. Your ocean beach photos perfectly mimic the white pumpkin setting photo! October inland is a whirl of reds, orange, yellow and golden browns, faded sunflowers whose centers still hold a seed or two for the hungry goldfinches, lopsided orange pumpkins greeting visitors at the back porch, and gorgeous mums bursting with blooms. And, if we're lucky some brilliant blue skies overhead.

  3. I like fall - sunny days and cooling nights. Gets my allergies all stirred up though, lol. You have some great pictures of the birds (terns?) and I love your big white pumpkin!

  6. Awww, nice quotes. Great pairing of the beautiful white pumpkin in the dark wood bowl!

Wonderful pics of the birds on the beach too. Thanks for educating me on the birds.

October came in hot here, whew! Really hot, lol. Expecting a little weather change from Tropical Storm Rosa, and maybe some rain tomorrow from a non tropical storm, fingers crossed.

  7. Such an abundance of bird life - a real treat to have a beach visit while the weather is wet, cold and misty here today, although this morning we had an Emerald Cuckoo establishing its territory with its "hello Georgie".
    Lovely quotes. Thank you. Penny
