The Playdate (Mo the Pug)

Hi! We had such fun! Yesterday, Monday, Mo and I were invited for a playdate!

introduction
Sizing each other up. Mo is off leash because he is smaller and obeys commands nicely. Reilly is more the excitable type, at least at first encounter.

It was a perfectly sunny, breezy, though hot July day. My friend L called and asked us to come over to play with her chocolate Lab puppy Reilly. It was just like old times, when our sons played together at preschool age.

L currently has three beautiful dogs: elder statesman-lady Maizie, a yellow Lab; Brutus the cutest little ball of white fluff, a Maltie. And now Reilly. Reilly is about 5 months old, Mo is now 3 months old.

They played nicely! Reilly was very gentle and patient. She even shared her ''antler'' bones!

Maizie bestowed a stately sniff and retired to her bed; Brutus wouldn't even consider puppy play. But Mo and Reilly and L and I had a wonderful afternoon. And Mo was tuckered out!

Pugs do not do well in hot weather so I had to monitor Mo closely and give him ice and cool water rub-downs.

It's so good to get a puppy out to play with other dogs. Puppies like Mo, left to their own resources, get into a LOT of trouble. The following pictures were taken the day Mo learned to stand on my little turquoise milking stool.

''Ma, I 'm stuck!"

''Help me?"

Yesterday evening: A happy but tired little guy.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

And yes, Mo snores, all pugs snore, lol.

Mo also received his official AKC paperwork yesterday, and his official AKC name: Satchmo "Mo" Dillingham. Though I'll always think he is named for famed NY Yankees relief pitcher, now retired, Mariano "Mo" Rivera. Maybe the next puppy can be Yogi? Or Mickey? Or......Babe?

Hope your week is wonderful!

  2. WONDERFUL! A play date! I love the picture where Mo is on the lab's head. Sounds like fun was had by all.

'Satchmo', I like it. My Dad used to call my little brother that, I think. I always wanted to name my cats after baseball players, it never worked out, so I started buying goldfish in pairs and naming them after players instead. I had Thurmon and Munson, Catfish and Hunter, PeeWee and Reese, etc. Fun in that I got to use the names, but sad in that I went through so many fish. I finally had to stop because it made me too sad. I would call my husband at work, sobbing, because another one bit the dust. Poor fish.

    Enjoy the week,
    Kel

    1. I love your naming idea! We ll have to remember in case we ever have a pair of puppies to name.

I m surprised that you used Yankees names, seems a MD girl would be a Baltimore fan.

Our goldfish lived forever! They wouldn t die, lol. We finally had to give them to guy who had a goldfish pond for rescued goldfish [like a koi pond?] and we saw him years later , he said Goldie and Spot were still alive and BIG! They gave me nightmares, I m afraid of fish, sort of.....Sorry for your loss tho. [our goldfish were the fancy swirly , spotty kind, maybe they live longer?]

    2. The player's names were mostly just because I like the names themselves, though ya gotta respect those guys. I AM required to be an Orioles fan but I was conflicted for awhile when Mike Mussina went to NY from MD. :)

My fish were not the fancy ones like yours. Funny how you had to give yours away to be rid of them. Haha

  3. Next puppy should be a girl named Lasses... *crickets* Get it? Mo and Lasses? Ok, dumb pun...

Reilly seems like a pretty good play-buddy. Most Labs are pretty patient, I think, and don't get snippy with smaller dogs like some do.

I love the pictures of Mo on the stool. Just like a guy - get up there FIRST, then try to figure out how to get down! LOL! At least you won't have to worry about finding him on top of the fridge! (Kelly's cat Neko scared the crap out of me one day, reaching out and touching the top of my head as I walked by!).

I'm glad you and L had a fun day, and thanks for sharing!

  4. OOooh a pun. I read it first as Lassie and it made no sense. I m slow with puns.

Reilly is rowdy, jumping on humans and barks a lot, but with Mo she was gentle and kinda submissive, maybe bec he is a male tho so tiny?

  5. My fave is Catfish and Hunter for a pair of kitties. Bae and Ruth would be good pug names, if they were girls....
