"Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year." — Ralph Waldo Emerson

Happy Valentines Day!

sixteenth birthday

and my mom's Elsa Peretti heart from

NYC Tiffany's. A handmade wooden box my dad's grandfather made, and so on.

Heart shaped pebbles from our beach on Cape Cod, in a basket in the blue bedroom.

Mo's ID tags are almost always hearts.

One of my fave collections is heart cooky cutters. This combines two interests, hearts and vintage or
 primitive tin cooky cutters.

Big tin heart sign in the background.

I especially love the the cutters with the scalloped edges. This is my best one, quite large.

This is one of my herbal hearts.

A sprig of rosemary or a tiny antique Pug Valentine tucked into the front pocket. (or a secret name of the one you love?, a folded bill for a favorite child? A chocolate kiss?)

The big bowl of fabric hearts keeps growing.

I know it's too many! I added a set of blues then more blues.

Not sure how to break them up, any takers?

A little scrap of ticking became a rare for me nowadays patriotic heart. I'll add a string to tie it on the pitcher handle maybe.

Have a fun Valentine's Day. It need not be champagne and roses at $100 each, this week only--it can be a call or a text to a friend, a hug for your kids or husband, an extra treat for your doggy. Make of it what you choose.

Mo is btw very fond of these treats. The heart cookies are a rare treat for him and he also loves the Zuke's minis. They were a staple when he was a puppy then hard to find during Covid. They always do  special holiday versions like these hearts.

♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ I have a friend who married his teenage sweetheart. Years ago, when they were 14, he'd give her a rose for every Valentine's Day they spent together, one for first year, two the next year, three, four--and so on. So romantic. Only romantic Valentine's tradition I ever knew anyone to do. Except my dad made my mom a handmade card each year and brought her red carnations, never expensive roses from Mr Frugal. He'd bring pink  mini carnations for me sometimes too. I guess that counts. Anyway the first couple have  been together now for many years and I wonder: Does he give her dozens of roses now? Just one instead? I didn't ask.

Happy Valentine's Day!

gone to the beach...

...walked a bit today, sun is melting the snow a little. Photo from Mo's sweet dogwalker, who bundles him up and takes him out to play each afternoon.

And I saw Mr Mockingbird! Singing away to his lady love. If it's the same bird, he must be 20 +years old.

I also saw a hawk cruising endlessly, low on the dunes. As the snow melts he can perhaps more easily find dinner.

  1. "Love"ly Valentine's posting, Lizzy:))) The bowl of hearts is so pretty; I love the door hanger one with Mo in the little pocket--just adorable...
Tom always brought me roses--sometimes mini planted ones even, but they are so out of sight that we forego that now and I opt for a small chocolate treat for both of us: snickers for him and Heath Bar pour moi;)))
Your little hugs and kisses quiltlet is just a perfect decoration for Valentine's.
I remember in school having to send a card to everyone in our class..the teacher would collect the envelopes and then hand then out...so exciting...little things made us happy along with the little candied heart sentiments...I hope you and Mo have a gentle, peaceful, and restful Valentine's Day...
    Hugs, Julierose

    1. Love your idea to have your own special choc bar, instead of crazy overpriced roses or heart boxes of yucky chocolates.

  2. I don't at all think you have too many hearts there, that bowl is a perfect resting place for them. I should collect all the sachet ones resting in my dresser drawers and put them in a wooden bowl for the weekend. Still have all the quilts with red out in the living room and my bedroom, they serve double duty as Christmas and Valentine's quilts and get stored at the end of the month when I break out the spring quilts. No matter that it's still cold and snowy, spring quilts come out March first. Hope you and Mo have a lovely Valentine's Day.

    1. I love the idea of keeping the red quilts out til spring, but by Christmas end I want a change. Years ago I had and sold a red and white Hearts and Gizzards quilt. Turn of 20th century. I d put that on the bed for V week some years. And my quilt dealer friend gave me a feed sack Hearts quilt top which I should have finished. It's pastels, mostly pink and blues, so it works across the seasons.

Hearts in drawers--I have them like that too! Some from my mom.

have a good week, must be a tad warmer now?

  3. Lots of hearts there! I have a heart shaped cooky cutter which is one of a set on a ring, hanging up in the kitchen. I got it around the 1970s, so it's had lots of use down the years.

  4. I love your hearts. I made a few years ago and I find myself giving them gradually away. I need to make more. I made a valentine pie today for my DH. It's a new recipe - Apple cranberry. It looks pretty, we'll see what it tastes like when it cools. The pug Valentine is adorable.

  5. The craftsmanship isn't good enough for me to share these w friends, I m not meticulous if making just for me. But such a sweet idea. Your pie sounds so good. I bet it's such a pretty color. Let me/ us know if it tastes good, cranberries need a lot of sugar?

  6. You can never have too many hearts together. I could spend ages, looking at the lovely fabrics you've used and ones that I have, or recognise, like the little brown pansies(?) which I have in a faded blue. It was one of the first quilt fabrics I bought. There's only a very small scrap left from the original fat quarter.
Don't the pinks and reds just sing in your Hugs n Kisses quilt? A gem.
