Snow Day

Hi everyone!\What happened to the WeatherBug forecast of ''dusting turning to sleet and rain?" Instead we woke up Sunday morning to that odd hush of silence that means a big snow is falling.

I do love a Christmas snow but this was unexpected. Again I'm hoping the power stays on. Gale winds and single digit ''feels like'' temps are to arrive this evening.

It won't be a deck sit and sew day, will it. Seven months til summer.

Mo donned his special glo in the dark and in the drifts jacket made for him by my friend Mel
 when Mo was a baby.
Still fits, still keeps him toasty warm, still dries really fast.

The jacket is easy on, over the head and a wide tummy belt. Very soft too.

He was so good, I wouldn't want to have to go sit in 8" of snow to potty. Though most pugs actually like snow, they are a double coated cold weather hardy breed.

This week I've been poring through all my holiday season vintage books and patterns. Fun to imagine what to make next t year or even next week if we're snow bound.

I love the Pinecones & Hollyberries vintage books from dear friend Penny in SA.

I  am attracted to the Sue Spargo version's colors. Usually I don't care for her designs tho I admire her expertise. Love the [unclear in these fast pics] black and white gingham w the reds and golds. Though that Urn block has got to go, ugh.

And this very vintage early 90s Cheri book has darling ideas. This arch is so different. Her Two Hour Christmas projects book is wonderful too, if wildly optimistic or I am very slow.

Yesterday before the snow came, my little friend and her mom  and I made a gingerbread house. LF did most of the decorating, I think she did great for only being 5 going on 6. So fun and my skills still intact. Use of a hot glue gun is essential.

And I delivered her Dolly's Christmas Skating outfit. It fits and looks so cute, I think.

This is just a check in. We're fine, the HOA has finally cleared the lanes and walkways. I have loads of food* I just hope the power stays on. I have my infusion tomorrow noon. I'll answer comments from this post and yesterday's post as best I can, I love reading your comments, as you well know.

Merry Christmas

love

lizzy and Mo

*The week's food for IV week/ snow storm: hamburger/ tomato casserole, Ham salad, roast beef salad, a green salad w cranberries and parm. I didn't yet make---but later in the week---: Egg salad, apple blue cheese Waldorf salad. And Chewy delivered an extra bag of Mo's pug specific kibble and potty pads. We're all set!

Bad news is, neighbors/ friends are texting me their water is off. Car skidded on ice and broke a hydrant. Hope I m far enough away, but filled pots and bowls just in case.

    1. I love designing the doll clothes, getting better at sewing part.
So far the water has stayed on but is a tad pee colored, so I didn't have my snow day tea. The fun socks are a gift from my brother & SIL, soft cotton. Next time they pop up on IG I'll send you the link. Unisex. Teens/ young adults love them w birkenstocks or UGG clogs etc.

  2. The skating outfit is wonderful, why are all my own clothes so dull? And there is a lot of Mo showing around the knitted coat! Never realized pugs have a double coat - our neighborhood pugs are wrapped in a variety of layers when outside in the cold and they wear boots! It must take longer to dress them than to walk them.

Have a good week, hope your power and water stay on.

    1. Hi! My doll clothes I make let me be as bright and busy as I d like to be in Real Life.
Mo has hats and parkas, no boots. Too hard to get on but if we get a lot of snow/ salt we may have to. Not all pugs have double coats but the fluffy tan ones, esp show dog// champion bred do. [not that Mo was ever shown but he has papers, lol.] Black and brindle tend to have single smoother coats. Mo has his visible cream and black soft but sturdy waterproof outer coat then a dense layer of white crimped down underneath. He doesn't feel like doggy fur, he feels like a very soft stuffed toy. I mostly worry about his paws and ears.

  4. What a nice surprise to wake up to all that snow. I remember waking up one morning with the peaceful hush of a blanket of new snow on the ground. It felt so good and then I realized I needed to get out of bed and drive my son to school. But, I can still feel that contentment I initially felt. I love the Pinecone & Hollyberries books. The Prince's feather is a bit distracting but I still like it. Mo looks warm and happy trotting around out of doors. I hope your infusuion goes smoothly and you come home feeling good and not exhausted.

  5. Beautiful photos of the snow!
I love that "odd hush of silence." When I was a kid I remember realizing we wouldn't have school because it was so silent outside.
We had snow during the day on Saturday and through the night. It was our third snow of the season, and now I'm wondering what real winter will be like, after Dec. 21! Our temp this morning was, I think, 4 degrees, with a minus wind chill. Very cold and windy.
I hope your power didn't go out and that you're warm and safe inside. I hope your water stayed on, too.
    Mo's jacket is so fun.
You have a great selection of Christmas and winter pattern books. Enjoy your time looking and deciding what to make.
Dolly looks adorable in her skating outfit.
