Hi everyone. Isn't it hot! Poor puzzled Mo has been indoors all day. His wonderful walker just came now almost 8 PM to walk him. A sunset walk.
I finished the memory spool a couple weeks ago. [hard to photograph, sorry.]
Well, this is embarrassing, misspelled remember not once but TWICE, never noticed a thing til today. I will fix it soon, I suppose.
The Beach Balls is my fave section. And I love the beachball button, a gift from blog friend Mel.
Here's the back.
I cheated and machine sewed the label and if I make another that may be my method, as the boro running stitching proved very painful for my hands and neck/ shoulder.
It was a fun cute useless project!
..................................
Then I spent an unbelievable amount of time making a Dolly and Me sundress set.
This was for my little friend, sadly she no longer wants to color, draw, read with me--an iPad kid , but she still so far has liked the doll clothes.
I haven't used a store bought paper pattern in years, since middle school probably. It was challenging. No wonder new sewers get discouraged. I kind of read the sizes then made my own.
I actually made the girl's dress twice, I was sure the first was too small. How awful for it to be too small for fast growing girl. The second though now is too big.
If making just to please me, I'd have added the embroidered pockets and gingham buttons.
But the family like things as plain as possible. I did use the vintage flower buttons, though the mom put them in the back.
I tried though, will she remember the gift made with love someday?
...................................
I've been working on Whatnots. I try for two motifs per day. I am having vison difficulties and am very slow sewing with the black thread.
Someone on FB showed her Cheri inspired black primitive whipstitching. Beautiful, so perfect and so tiny. I don't like a too small whip stitch, the bite is what keeps the fraying edges attached. As for tiny and perfect--how is that prim? My way works for me, I do my best. No doubt my stitches will improve as I continue to sew.
Next up is binding on Silent Night. May be postponed due to heat waves. We'll enjoy one day at a time.
PS As I write this July 15/ 16 I am seeing the sudden barrage of Halloween on Instagram. Fourth of July was less than two weeks ago--11 days. But I suppose that is better than Halloween on July 5. Or, like Easter. [old Google photo from my files]

gone to the beach...
Love your memory spool--I like how you also decorated the back, too!! I have my 4 displayed on my buffet beneath family pictures--the grand girls like to unroll them when they visit...;))
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely little sundress--I think that embroidered pocket would be a beautiful addition too--would make it so special...
but "te gustibus.." and all that, right?
The Whatnots piece is coming along so well--slow is how I am going, too..I like how your stitching looks--perfectly prim;)))
Poor Mo--he must wonder why he has to stay in--but this heat is so debilitating and dangerous really!! I hear that it may break tomorrow--fingers crossed...
hugs Julierose
Love the memory spool. You have some delightful fabrics to showcase. It's really darling. So disappointing not to be able to sew that darling pocket on the dress which is adorable. And of course, Whatnots is delightful to see. Enjoy your stitching.
ReplyDeleteThe spool was fun. It just was very labor intensive. Thanks for comments!
DeleteThe ocean looks so cool and inviting! Wish I could take a walk on the beach just now.
ReplyDeleteDear Mo. He looks adorable in his necklace. Really, hasn't it been too hot for dogs to be outside? But maybe not where you are. Here it "feels like" temperatures have been in the 90s.
You have lots of interesting fabrics you your spool. How wide is it?
I am amazed at people who can sew without patterns! Sweet dresses. So sorry the larger is too large. Can you shorten the straps or take in a little on the bodice sides? Oh, I would love the embroidered pockets.
How sad your little friend has moved on to an ipad. Technology can be so addictive and damaging for little ones.
Your WhatNots looks fabulous. I agree about having bigger stitches around the edges. I think yours looks perfectly prim!
I haven't seen autumn at the stores yet, but am sad to see the school supplies out already. As much as I love looking at them, I still think it's too early. But then when i was a kid, school didn't start until after Labor Day.
The spool scroll is 1 1/8" .
DeleteNo it is too hot for Mo to walk in the daytime, 95% humidity too, and any sidewalks can burn his feet. That's why our D Walker had begun sunset walks! Our other walker does early morning walks but Mo can't go out until his meds take effect, timing is 9.3O - AM and PM. So the evenings are a blessing, tho he is puzzled. School should start after Labor Day and end Memorial Day.
Sorry. That anonymous comment was from me.
ReplyDeleteNo talk of halloween here! Little Mo looked happy to be getting out in the cool of the evening. We are finally getting a short break from the heat and humidity tomorrow, it's already cooler tonight than it has been in days. Last night's thunder storms produced just under two inches of rain and yet another flooded far back yard. Sometimes it's just plain fun to create a totally useless bit of frivolity just for the fun of it. Of course if you had a cat it would suddenly become very useful! Such cute dresses for your young friend and her dolly, I hope they appreciate the beautiful work you do in creating these unique wardrobes for them.
ReplyDeleteOooh lucky you w the weather, despite the flooding. I expect relentless sun and heat now for months.
DeleteI think the handmade clothes please ME the most, I so loved designing clothes, it was my career. Thankfully then I didn't have to actually sew them, I had a staff of samplemakers and assistants. I am better at ideas than actual work, lol.

What a pretty little dress and doll dress. I am sure they were received and worn with pleasure. Love all your little bits and pieces you have made. It is cooler here so I am preparing the outside woodwork for FINALLY being painted a pretty colour - I do NOT do chocolate brown!
ReplyDeleteLabors of luck be including your painting

Love not luck

Love the sundresses! Of course the little girl as a teen will rebel against the minimalism and be totally baroque in her style, how much you want to bet?
ReplyDeleteHugs to Mo.

I hope so! How fun that will bee.
DeleteI love the blues in your scroll and I think remember is one of those words that I need to double check whenever I write it. Love MO’s beads
ReplyDeleteThanks! It was fun finding the tiny images. "Remember"---I never even noticed. I love Mo's beads, he is so proud to wear them.
