Hi everyone! Are the leftovers eaten, the Tree is up and glowing on the very beautiful but early very dark for day of December? I hope the month brings happiness, peace, and joy to all.
I'll start with something fun! A friend gave me this wonderful trader Joe candles advent calendar.
The scents [I peeked! I sniffed] are lavish and unusual. Each scent refers to a beloved Trader Joe's product. Today's is Swedish Swimmies [Fish], the classic gummies candy; the scent is sweetly berry themed.
I plan to light a new candle every two days, that way I'll enjoy them all through the holiday month. Then they can be reused during the winter, or maybe for my Christmas Eve buffet get together, all lined up and making the house smell fab.

Wish the pages had more room.
Here there are very few trees; those that are here are often ornamentals. So when I was out I had my eyes peeled for any pretty leaves!
Some leaves were pocketed , brought home and pressed for future drawings.
Mo is my faithful supervisor, here with the ancient peach tree. Its brilliant leaves are our best autumn show.

Nature nerd girl notes:
Mr M is back and brought a girlfriend! They were busy in the bayberry shrubs last week===gorging on the newly ripe tiny blue grey berries--- though he esp likes to be up top of the ugly locust tree, where he sings away in the golden afternoon sun.
Vs of geese overhead. Some migrate as late as November, others stay and are traveling between feeding, roosting, spots.
This week I'll decorate a bit, keeping low key due to the short holiday season this year. And I'm invited to a tree trimming party! How fun!

What a lovely posting, Lizzy--"..Swiftly flow the years.." is so right...bittersweet lyrics for sure...
ReplyDeleteI do just love your nature journaling--it is truly beautiful...the leaves are just delightful!!
I took out a few Christmas table toppers --we don't do a lot of decorating for Christmas anymore...We are slowly letting go of things now...I will pick ornaments we have left to gift to my son and daughter for their trees...
Everything changes--but I am looking forward to Christmas this year for the first time since Mom passed. Moving on and letting go...
hugs, Julierose
I so enjoy these posts - such a different view in your part of the world. I have been cutting paper to make a new watercolor journal with my watercolor group and looking forward to a new year of pens and paints.
ReplyDeleteLovely leaf colors
ReplyDeleteThanks! I love drawing the leaves in fall and early winter, best colors.
DeleteThat is one of our favorite songs and movies. So many memories, as it was the song for the father -daughter dance at my step daughter's wedding. Love your nature journals, was especially struck by your rendering of the china berry. I think it might need to be included in my BB3 quilt if I ever get that far. No posts lately as my camera died along with all the photos taken since mid October. Cold, windy and a near blizzard at times today, I think we have around six inches of snow but hard to tell because of the drifting. Glad we're not in the midst of the lake-effect areas as they're measuring snow in feet rather than inches! Hope it doesn't reach your end of the state.
ReplyDeleteYour nature journaling is so pretty. What a great idea. I'm sure it makes you more observant. I love your wooden bowl with the white mini pumpkins etc. We are all decorated for Christmas. Pretty sparely at this point in our lives as downsizers/empty nesters, just a few favorite things here and there, and a tree. Hope you had fun at the tree trimming party!
ReplyDeleteYour drawings are exquisite. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I enjoy the change of craft from quilting/ knitting.
DeleteI haven't been to Trader Joe's in ages! The candles are a fun idea. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteYour nature journal drawings/paintings are fabulous! I especially like the cosmos and the foxtail paintings. But the maple leaf you found is really amazing with so many colors. Now, as I keep scrolling and looking, I'm impressed by all your leaf paintings. Your locust leaves are fabulous and so is your gingko leaf--well so are all of them!
I hope you had fun at the tree trimming party.
And look at the perfection of your mushroom!!!
Is this a repeat comment? If so, please delete. (I couldn't tell if it posted or not.)
