Scribble Journal

I learned a new acronym the other day: TLDR

TLDR stands for Too long, didn't read".

''TLDR is an abbreviation for "too long; didn't read" that is used to indicate that the person posting about an article or other type of content either didn't read the text it in its entirety or didn't read it at all.'' according to the slang dictionary

When I began blogging, in 2009,  an opinionated but well meaning reader/ friend told me the secret of blogging success was to keep posts short and fast. She said mine were too long, too photo dense. [she is not a reader anymore, as you can guess, though I am fond of her still.]

Obviously 14 years later, I didn't take her advice.

My blog, as I have described often, was/is a substitute for the weekly, even twice weekly, long letters I exchanged with mom, starting from the day I left home for college. We wrote long rambling stuff, drew pictures, inserted photos, pressed flowers, wine labels, teabag tags, fabric swatches, feathers. My mom's passing left a huge hole in my heart and in my life and I figured if I wanted to do it my way, I would so do.....

That said, Friday's Welcome June post was too long to attach my recent journal pages. So here we go.

Scribble journal.

Watercolor does not work well on cheap grocery list notebook pages. But I love the untraditional paints in the watercolor box.

Perpetual nature journal:

I was marking the weeks for late May into June and had an Oh no moment. There's only enough pages for the summer. Start a new tiny one July 1st, halfway through the year? Or set aside and start over with a proper book with at least 52 pages.

  1. Beautiful sketches, very talented. My mother liked to do pencil drawings, they were very good. I didn't inherit that talent. My stick figures are unrecognizable.

  2. Ohmygosh!! I just love your little watercolors in that journal--just lovely little memories to savor...you do beautiful work...
Short and fast blogs are not for me either (duh--I am so wordy!!)
Anyhoo--I think of my blog as a long, chatty letter...my own diary/journal entries are that way too--totally "stream of consciouness" --random thoughts, ideas, plans, feelings...
I looked back at a couple of them last night (I've been using the Hobonichi since 2017 and was amazed at how many things came back to mind as I read).
I once read a quote that said :
"The unexamined life is not worth living" and that has been my mantra...I just really enjoy your picture-ful and chatty postings...hugs, Julierose

  3. Lovely photos! My mom and grandmother were painters but I didn't inherit any of their talent! People may want short and sweet, but that is what instagram is for. I enjoy blogging.

  4. WELL! I'm glad you didn't take that advice! Your blog is unique, beautiful , precisely because of the loving attention you pay to the details, be it your photography, your sketches, your quilts. That's why your loyal followers keep reading! Keep on being you.

  7. Posting for Mel
Well, I disagree with your critic! Short, fast blog posts may appeal more to the younger generation with their short attention spans, but I like your posts. They're more like a visit, I get to see what you've been doing, how you're feeling, etc. So I'm glad you didn't follow that advice!

I enjoy seeing your artwork, whether your scribble journals or your nature journal. As for running out of pages -- I vote you just start a new one whenever this one runs out of pages!

  8. Who wants short blogs? Not me,thanks. I so enjoy your lucious beach flora and fauna during the changing seasons of the year where there is no rush and one can amble through your posts.
Thank you for sharing what you began with your Mum - a precious record to delight so many of us.

  9. I enjoy your scribble journal entries, Lizzy, but I think your nature journal entries are fabulous! It's hard to tell the size. Are the pages about 4" x 6" or smaller? (A guess based on the egg.)
It's so wonderful that you and your mom corresponded with long letters. Does a hole like her leaving ever get filled? Probably not.
The first photo in this post with the tulips is the blue jar on the white chair is fabulous! I love how the wall behind takes on a robin's egg blue tint.

Hi! I'm allowing comments from everyone, even anonymous for awhile, to see what happens. With comments moderation. Hopefully the awful porn spammer has gone elsewhere. Or you can always email me! I love to hear from everyone.
