Garden Peeping ~ Summer Blue Hydrangeas Time

July--welcome, July!

Fourth of July weekend was lovely, in a cool breezy kind of way. Bright sunshine, blue blue skies. But tonight there's a 30 mph gale off the ocean, bringing early darkness with drizzle and fog. I wore a winter weight Patagonia fleece to walk Mo.

Mo and I have been feasting our eyes on all the hydrangeas, now bursting into mop-head bloom.

I love this shell pink hydrangea. It will mature into bright Carribean blue and chartreuse.

Lime green and raspberry.

A tall shrub we pass every evening, in massive bloom and buzzing with bees and wasps. I thought it was a euonymus, but now I am unsure. There's a robin family nesting in this sweet bower.

The wild roses, some cultivated, but hardy beach type, continue.

My friends' beautiful carefully evolved garden, most photos taken by my friend. My friend learns quickly and has become very expert at producing stunning results. He feeds something to the hydrangeas to keep them bright sky blue.

..........................................................................

back home ~ My wildflowers and zinnias are in bloom.

Always such a fun project, to watch and see what returns, what appears spontaneously, and how the seeds that sprout and grow compare with the photoshopped color enhanced pictures on the seed packs.

The two tone coreopsis, below, are volunteers, unplanned.

These coreopsis were planted maybe 5 years ago, just get better each year.

Unexpected Candy Tuft

Something sweetly daintily blue.

My lilies---year ten?

New cannas. They will take over as the wildflowers fade by August. Have to add a photo!

And oh my goodness this was a Fail, bedding flowers from Amazon. Three ''sunpatiens'' for 26.oo. What was I thinking? I was upset that I could not yet make the drive to the flower nursery, so late one night, I gave Amazon a try. Yuck! took me two days to get a refund, they don't make it easy.

[Speaking of Fails, the flowers I ordered from Bouqs were very much just so-so, nothing special, well past their prime. My friend was too polite to send me a picture. Bouqs did immediately give me a full credit for another bouquet. I will try them again and let you all know. Another thing I am learning is that not everyone loves cut flowers as much as I do, not everyone wants to bother: an ah-ha moment for me. post about the  Bouq's flower order here:  Bouqs  NOT referring to the gorgeous Hollandridge Farm A++++ order, Bouqs is at the end , scroll down]

My new white windscreens, so beautiful.. They create a secluded oasis for me and Mo, and maybe even for guests again soon.

Have a good week.

gone to the beach...

I love the little Cessna type planes that pull the big signs above the beach. So old-fashioned.

*************************

ongoing art project, @roomportraitclub week 71. I see no improvement, discouraged and losing interest.

First pic is their photo, not mine!

Below is one reason I perhaps will give up on RPC challenges. This is a new computer program, a make do app I found on my pic files page. The wonderfully FUN app disappeared a couple weeks ago during an unasked for ''update''. I cannot seem to to retrieve it. The one I used below is clunky and hard to use. So disappointed.

And...Last week's room by @sosunammy my favorite artist. So imaginative, how she combines the scene with her pug depictions. Look at that puggy face!

And my June into July nature journal doodle, just silly fun.

Colorized!

  2. Hydrangeas always seem to flourish in a coastal environment and your neighborhood has some great ones. Your lily is gorgeous too.

  3. Lovely to see the flowers in your neighbourhood. I have a (very) baby Hydrangea which is meant to be different bright colours but just have leaves yet. Not good value for money but bought when Lockdown-desperate! I love the blue of the Hydrangeas - takes me back to being 16 and I had a cream dress which clung in all the right places and I had a little sprig of blue Hydrangea on it (nipped from someone's garden on the way to the bus-stop.)

    1. How pretty your outfit sounds! //You are a far superior gardener to me, but I 'd say hydrangeas like wet feet, salt air, and shade. They bloom on previous year's growth so don't prune much at first, if ever.

  4. Your lilies are beautiful!
I think the Mystery Shrub is a type of viburnum - not sure, but I'm pretty sure euonymus have smooth leaves that are more oval. We used to have them all around our house and they do have white blooms - but attract flies like you would NOT believe!
Love the cute little pug in Sosunamy's painting. I also really love your nature sketches!
The 4th was HOT here - we stayed indoors and played with granddaughter, lol. No bug bites that way!
Love that you got your deck canvas back up, yay! Makes your deck feel like home again, right?!

  5. Beautiful hydrangeas and they just seem to say summer. Beautiful blue sky too! Your wildflowers and lilies are so pretty too. I think the canvas fence is so interesting and fresh looking, so coastal, such a great idea!

  6. You have some beautiful flowers in your neighborhood, Lizzy, and some beautiful flowers near your own home. The coreopsis and zinnias are beautiful, and so is the color of your lily. Maybe I should try some very large planters for annuals....
What a beautiful sunset rainbow photo.
I love your little room portrait 71. I think it's wonderful! It's so disappointing when updates change our computers without our permission. Frustrating especially to lose apps we love.
    Fun journal pages.
I hope you had a happy Fourth.

  7. I agree I think it might be a kind of viburnum. It does remind me a bit of what we call chinese fringe tree blooms, but certainly out of season for that. I absolutely love your drawing! thanks so much for sharing all your beauties and creativity.

    1. Thanks about my artwork! Good stress buster, sketching, dabbling.
I looked up the Chinese Fringe Tree, and while I don t think that is what this shrub is, in a group of old mundane plantings, I was surprised how similar it does look to the C Fringe Tree! Good eye!
