Happy Earth Day: reuse/ recycle/ sustain....
This is my current ''reuse'' project. I have a friend who is always growing scallions in her kitchen window. So when I had this very root-y Vidalia sweet onion on my cutting board awhile ago decided I'd try re-growing onions.
It is trying so hard. I hope the weather stays warm enough for me to plant it outdoors this weekend.
What is your go to Save the Planet gesture? Pick up trash? Inveterate recycler? No plastic bags!-ever? Reuse the bathwater for the garden....
Enjoy the spring weekend!

gone to the beach....
from a friend this morning:
We transplanted all our tomato seedlings today into Solo cups where they will grow until it's warm enough to transplant into the garden. We save the Solo cups from year to year and this is about the 4th or 5th year for some of them. That's my recycling story for today. My daughter starts new celery, onions and other veggies from the base of 'parent' veggies. She's a great recycler of many things.
ReplyDeleteI pick up trash, and especially like to get the mylar balloons tossed away safely. Wish we could get rid of them permanently. I keep a bucket in the tub to fill while I wait for the water to get hot. I use it to water plants. In general, I hate to be wastful, and will reuse whatever I can.
ReplyDeleteLook at Mo's little feets :)
Cool lighthouse pic.
Your vidalia onion project is looking good and what a nice idea. I am trying hard to not waste food, and to reduce using paper towels (keeping the paper towels out of sight under the sink helps).
ReplyDeletePretty pictures. We haven't seen blue skies like that in a while. I do what I can -- carry tote bags and produce bags with me and pick up trash all the time. Try to upcycle and reuse things. Where I live doesn't make it easy so I just do the best I can each day.
ReplyDeleteI love the fun in the sun Mo shot.
ReplyDeleteWe have a large well supported recycle centre in our town. Plastic, glass, paper and cardboard is taken there once a week in large dog food bags which have lasted their recycle journey for a good couple of years.
we also use fold/scrunch up fabric bags for shopping and monthly meds are put into paper packets by the chemists now.
Lovely lighthouse shot.
We re-use any plastic bags to peel veggies on and store any refuse in our under-the-sink garbage can...
ReplyDeleteWe use fabric shopping bags at the supermarket; also we eat leftovers...little or no food waste here...I keep avocado pits for dying or growing into little plants...
Looks like Mo is enjoying a play in the Spring grass..Blue blue skies here this morning and brilliant sunshine...it looks so warm--hoping that wind subsides a bit...have a great weekend...hugs, Julierose

ReplyDeleteYour vidalia onion is growing so beautifully, Lizzy. I hope you're able to harvest an edible onion from the plant. And that little jar is delightful!
ReplyDeleteI love your collection--butterfly, hook, bubble wand, and shells--(I assume from the beach?) you always seem to find such interesting things.
As for recycling/save the planet, I use cloth bags for most of my shopping and recycle paper, board, plastic, etc. My mom was a great reuser, probably because she grew up during the Great Depression. I learned a lot from her, some of which I don't put into practice these days.
