Food is Love ~ Happy Valentines Day

Good morning! Happy Valentines Day. This sweet vintage tea towel reminds me of the cute Valentines we shared as children. How I loved that big "mailbox'' set up in Mrs Hull's second grade classroom.

Blog friend Kit was making snickerdoodles the other day from her vintage Betty Crocker cookbook. It is very similar to this children's version my mom gave me when I was about 7.

Very ''mid-century'', 1950s design, one of her flea market cookbook finds, I think.

I loved the heart cake! We made it every year for Valentines Day.

I learned to cook from this funny little book. It is all about using Betty Crocker mixes, something I still do.

I made her every year for my birthday! Though I used a canned pear. It didn't ''go'' with my dinner choice of my mom's lasagna but she was okay with my choices always.

Some other favorites, still in use, if simplified [no sails on our baked potatoes these days, lol].

aka "Toad in the Hole"

My friend brought me these fun Valentines from Trader Joe's!

Heart shaped cheese! So creative of TJ's.

We had more snow! Mo is all dressed up in his stylish grey Valentine sweater!

We both send Happy Valentine wishes to you all!

  4. Happy Valentine's Day. I love the snow-covered trees and who would have guessed that was a hydrangea under cover?
You have a gem of a cookbook. The illustrations are so period - almost as delightful as Mo in his fetching outfit!

  5. I'm late checking my e-mail but it was nice to see your post! Love the old cookbook - I have a BC cookbook from my mom too but it's not a children's version. And I cheated and bought heart-shaped cake pans so I could make a 2-layer heart cake! I still have them.

The snow is so pretty in your pictures and it doesn't LOOK like it was too bitterly cold. And your Valentine's gifts are very nice!

I hope you had a great Valentine's Day! We had a nice quiet one here - watched a couple movies, lol.

    Take care!

  6. What a sweet post. It would be fun if you happened to have a photo of one of the heart cakes you made. The baked potatoes are so funny! Cute tea towel, too.

I almost didn't see Mo under that sweater. Cute as a bug. It does look a bit chilly there.

Your friend spoiled you! I hope you're staying cozy, and that you enjoyed your day :)

  7. It may be a Valentines sweater but Mo looks like an adorable fluffy snowball!

  8. That Betty Crocker cookbook is so familiar. . . the Raggedy Ann Salad, the eggs in a frame, the not-so-appetizing 3 men in a boat. The illustrations are familiar too, like gentle hug from an old Auntie. I must have had that book. Thanks for sharing.
