Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays to everyone! If you've read my blog for a while you know that every year I take the time to make a trip over the bridges to my favorite farmhouse nursery/ garden center. Years ago we went to a big department store that had many trees and ornaments and a vast display of HO gauge* trains in Christmas landscapes and villages. Before that, I lived in the city--the outing was to skate at Rockefeller Center under the giant magical Tree. Happy times. Last week we enjoyed the garden center's festive displays.
The shop was surprisingly quiet---were we too late or has the return of the pandemic and the fad of simplified Christmases reduced their holiday exuberance?
Inside was beautiful. Their cut trees cater to the folks who want enormous trees!
Small assortment of pre-lit faux trees. I am looking for a small white tree, maybe 40"? Maybe next year.
My mission was to buy a few ornaments [too expensive] and a big armload of fresh real holly, another tradition.
Lovely bundles of fresh cut greenery, many interesting varieties of berries and cones in each bunch. I especially like the blue juniper berries.
Wreaths were featured and interesting.
I liked these weird pods.
There were white or very pale trees and décor.
This shop specializes in coastal and beach ornaments. Three trees this year! From the most delicate iridescent glass seashells, to surfboards and seaweed.
Some nods to Woodland and Farmhouse Christmas styles.
I wanted another of their cardboard and glitter tiny houses, but this year's ornie was a barn, so not-beachy.
Some Gnomes.
Poinsettias.
New to me colors, so beautiful.
I wanted to get my friend who loves tropical gardens a blue poinsettia. He'd love these 6 foot tall real lime trees, trained into topiaries. But he didn't answer texts, and you know, maybe he prefers to choose his own?
These glass peppermint ribbon candy trees were so fun and different.

We couldn't resist Home Goods! A few fun finds.
My vision problems are hampering my shopping mojo. I loved this set.
And these, but didn't realize the handpainted set was Twelve Days of Christmas until I edited the pix.
And I so wanted a felted pompom garland, fad of the Year. Too $$ but this one, with hearts, oh my! --- love it.
...........
Trader Joe's: Great flowers, seasonal greenery and narcissus.
Lavender or rosemary tiny tree.
I found my January bulbs at the garden store this year.
Thrilled to find them, especially two different varieties. Something fun for after the hols.
Mo and I had the loveliest walk just now. A wind-free warmer day, end of a glorious sunset, then we admired all the Christmas lights shining in the gathering darkness. Lighted wreaths are wonderful invention. And I love the soft candle glow of neighbors' lanterns. A Christmas walk, another tradition.
I hope you all enjoy this festive season!

gone to the beach....
*HO gauge trains are the small very realistic trains, not children's toys.

PS One last much loved tradition: sending Christmas cards. I don't send many, but each has a handwritten note with news and updates and how are you all?s included. My address book is ancient. The separating pages are Amish quilt photos. I do not recall ever seeing this one before. I'd love to recreate it.
Oh how lovely!! I felt like I was right there with you. So many pretty items. We go to our nursery this Thursday to see their Christmas shop. Kit
ReplyDeleteWonderful selection of ornaments and it must have smelled so fresh in there with all those fresh pines. I've never seen a blue poinsetta. The light pink ones are so pretty. Looks like you found some nice bulbs! That is a stunner of a quilt in your address book!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, that Amish quilt is definitely one we should recreate! Midwestern I think with the brighter colors, definitely perfect for cold gray days!
ReplyDeleteOh that Amish quilt looks right up your alley for sure ;)))
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking us along on your day out--what lovely lovely items on display...
A bit cooler here this morning--30.4 degrees
good strolling weather. Icing my ankle in preparation for my indoor bike exercise....
Hugs, julierose
I always love to go along on your outings! Very cool stuff, I loved the pink poinsettias and the glass seashells! Fun stuff in the stores, too, and I'm glad you found your indoor bulbs for January. Very nice pictures of the sundog, too - there have been a few spotted here, too, showing up on the Kansas Snapshot page on facebook. I'm apparently not out at the right times of day, lol. It's WINDY here today and we may get a thunderstorm - it's in the forecast but no sign of rain on radar yet, so who knows.
ReplyDeleteI spotted an interesting artificial pre-lighted tree while out with my daughter. The LED lights were all white one minute, then faded out and back on in multiple colors! Kind of cool. I used to have 2 strings of lights with controls to do multiple effects and my favorite was 'twinkle fade' - which made the tree look like it was lighted by white fireflies or fairies of some sort. I don't think I've ever seen other lights that did the same effect, sadly. I wish you good luck on your tree search, maybe you'll get lucky and find one for next year if not for this year! Take care!
It was so much fun going Christmas shopping/browsing with you! You always find the most interesting things and have great perspective on them!
ReplyDeleteAll the varieties of poinsettias was a lot of fun, the only ones that seem to follow me home are either white or red ... and then they just don't last that long. (My thumb and all of my fingers are black, insert a sigh here!)
I think I saw some small flocked trees at Costco, probably not what you are after, but a thought.
Hugs to you and Mo

Thanks for sharing your outing. From the outside it really didn't look like much was happening, did it? Sooo many fun things to look at inside, though! I liked the wreaths with the pods, too. Very natural.
ReplyDeleteI feel like I saw our Trader Joe's was carrying the garlands? I didn't look at the price, or the length, but they sure would be fun.
Great close up of Mo :)

I don't get out much for holiday browsing or shopping. I enjoyed your blog post today.
ReplyDeletewe did make it out to get a tree in the mountains and snow! And going to try out our new showshoes tomorrow!
Your garden centre visits are always a treat, despite causing 'bulb envy'! Such variety. I love the beach themed tree with the seaweed fronds.
ReplyDeleteAs always, your sea and beachscapes are spectacular. Thank you.
