The Last Sunset of Summer

Good evening, friends. I don't have much to say tonight. Blogger is now awful and no longer fun. And  I'm feeling suddenly a bit sad and hopeless and lonely, as my favorite [but they are all favorites except poor old Spring] season fades away, unused, unloved, unimagined.

The sun sets on summer 2020.

A short walk to welcome Autumn....

Outer swale, flooded from the storm; it is a natural catchbasin that helps control flooding higher in the dunes.

Grasses are lush; no goldenrod this year.

No treasure yet, just this wooden tray-like piece. Coffee table? Just add legs?

The good news is that H Teddy's big waves washed away all bu thte largest tree forming the Trump eyesore to my west. Photo next time, somehow I lost the one I took yesterday.

**************************************

My shell has lost almost all its color. I didn't think Sharpies would wash away so fast.

Volunteers on the dune verge; painful burrs with many tiny barbs. Huge bush. Who let this thing flourish anyway?

Lovely giant sunflower, 8 feet tall, pale lemon yellow, not golden.

Interesting tiny footprints, what creatures was so busy here?

Then---the first sunset of Fall.....

and  the glorious first sunset of Spring down in South Africa, thanks to Penny and Nicky.

I wonder if Mo, too, minds the darkness?

Do you?

love

lizzy

gone to the beach...

PS Do we now need a bigger font?

Is this better?

This one?

  1. The slightly bigger font is better. As Spring starts here and summery weather Is on the way, I feel so much better. I’m not a cold weather person. Blue skies and sunshine definitely brightens my soul. You seem to feel the same.
We are hoping lockdown eases on Sunday. Our virus numbers have dropped, thank goodness, and we hope to get out and see the family again.
    Keep well and warm.

  2. I've had less spam lately too, knock on wood. The beach and ocean is beautiful no matter the season.

  3. First comment posted before I was finished typing - not good with using the tablet for messages. Anyway I've found that Sharpie pens aren't all that permanent. Between the sand, sun and salt spray I'm not surprised it is fading off the shell. Still pretty though, think of it as gaining the gray hair of longevity.

  4. The font seems fine to me. As long as the weather stays decent I pretend it is still summer!! It's my favorite season too and I'll send you a link to a song I always sing at the end of summer. I was always sad to send my kids back to school.

  5. I like the middle font, 'cuz I'm getting old...

Beautiful sunset photos! Yes, this summer seems to have just disappeared unused. I have not really been out much, even though I was going to my daughter's house to babysit a lot. I was kind of shocked when I woke the other morning to find it was still dark outside!

But I'm kind of looking forward to fall, if not necessarily winter. I like the cool days and chilly nights of fall -- when we actually GET fall and don't go directly from HOT to FREEZING! I'm sure the annoying virus will keep many from enjoying autumn, too, but we can hope that it won't be too bad.

The bushy plants with barbed seeds is a cocklebur bush! I haven't seen on since I was a kid! The seeds are terrible if you get them in hair, or a horsetail or dog fur, but my mom used them for crafts. Farmers around here had killed them off, so I wonder where the seeds for those plants came from? Hmm...

Hope you have a good weeked!

  6. Well, since you're asking, yes a larger font would be better. Also, I'd recommend selecting fewer pictures, only the best ones. (For example, one photo of the sand instead of three). It focuses the attention better and lets the viewer appreciate it more. That's my opinion anyway ... which is worth what it cost!

    1. Thanks for your input. I will try to make the font larger. However you will never see LESS photos on my blog, especially on a post that is simple a wlk and photos post, not a writing post---- so if there are too many for your taste, you'll just have to give me a miss. Though I agree the three tiny footprint pics do not show up properly and I was trying to see which were visible. Will delete entirely for now.

    2. Or not---Blogger won't let me remove the excess sand pics w/out losing the entire post.

    3. Typo *A simple walk and photos post. Can't fix typos either, sigh

  7. I can never have enough beach shots and love the weathered effect on your shells ~ part of Nature's cycle.
The tiny tracks of unseen beach residents are fascinating. Penny

  8. Your photos are just beautiful--bring 'em on!! ;))) The more the merrier for me...

New Blogger is a pain in the butt--nothing "feels" right about it..I also am finding it sad to lose our comfortable and easy to use old blogger..
When i got up at 6 a.m. it was still DARK to go
earlybird grocery shopping...that was a shocker... But this day is a lovely and warmish one...
I love visiting your blog--so much "eye candy"...don't change a thing..
    Hugs, Julierose

  9. I feel just as you do, Lizzy: blogging is no longer fun since legacy blogger has gone. I don't even want to sign in to blogger. I would stop except that my blog is really my only connection to other quilters.
The larger font is better (for my old eyes, anyway).
You have some beautiful photos of the ocean and sunset in this post. Thanks for sharing them.

  10. Good morning from Montana! It's a Cloudy and cool one today. I probably should bring in my overwintering geraniums. I love all your pictures. And even more so now, since I don't get to go to the coast next month. I will live vicariously through you. I happen to like the early dark. I love turning on all my little lights, and tinkling music. And that I write in my real Journal. I am busy starting to put away my yard art. I always delay a little too long and then I'm doing it when it's very cold... LOL well I hope you have a good weekend, and give a kiss to Mo for me. Off I go, baking sugar cookies today for an event tomorrow. Take care, kit

  11. Hard to believe we're into Autumn already. You got a lovely shot of the sunset to mark the end of summer. Seeing the photo of the first sunset of spring from SA made me feel hopeful. Great moon pic, too!

I wonder what other people used to color their shells? I like the cute little starfish :) Perhaps the storm dismantling the political display is a sign...

I see you got yourself a couple of washers! I would enjoy a larger font, for sure.

PS I never got that second cup of coffee
    yesterday 😉

  12. Your beach pictures are gorgeous as usual. Fall is my absolute favorite season, but sometimes the transition happens rather quickly. Those years are the worst.
