Good morning, friends, on this first weekend of summer. As I rehang my wooden American flag in honor of Memorial Day, the skies are sadly empty and silent. Usually the Beach skies are efilled with roar of the Blue Angels or Thunderbirds, as the performing military jets practice for the big Memorial airshow at a nearby state beach park.
Not this year. The show attracts hundreds of thousands of beach goers, and would not be safe or allowed.
Instead the two jet squads did a flyover in April, to honor the hospital workers on the virus frontlines. Enjoy the video, it is quite spectacular, especially to see the two ''rival'' crews fly together. Amazing cockpit filming too.. Please take a few moments to watch.
Remembering especially my dad, who made my flag---and who was an AF pilot.

gone to the beach....
in case the Blogger vid doesn't play, here is the You Tube link.
Wow,great video. You must be proud of your dad.
ReplyDeleteSuper video, I always love seeing their tight formations as they fly over, so very inspiring. Your dad was very special. Memorial Day weekend will be quiet around here, local parades mostly cancelled. Two good friends for fish fry Friday at our house, tonite dinner for two al fresco on our porch, little bistro table quilt brought out for the occasion, hummingbirds buzzing nearby. Can't get much better than that on a late May weekend.
ReplyDeleteHappy Memorial Day! I still remember watching the Blue Angels in Wyoming 38 years ago. I just love watching flyovers. I hear the Blue Angels did a flyover in Indianapolis today. To an empty crowd at the speedway. I also hung my flag. Enjoy your weekend! Kit
ReplyDeleteThinking of you on Memorial Day with your Dad's very special flag. Thank you for the excellent video. Penny
ReplyDeleteWow, that makes your flag so special and meaningful! What a treasure.
ReplyDeleteWe had a flyover in Central Oregon as well. Thanks to your dad!!
ReplyDeleteAlways appreciate when you hang the flag that your Dad made. I hope that this year people have had an opportunity to reflect on what Memorial Day signifies.
ReplyDeleteCool video! We were lucky to have 11 vintage planes fly right over our backyard. It was exciting :)
Hope you're well,
Kel
Great video! So impressive. Love your sweet, sentimental flag.:)
ReplyDeleteThat video was just thrilling, Lizzy. I would never have thought to look for it on youtube.
ReplyDeleteLove your father's flag!
I saw the Air Force group fly once while my brothers were in service - I wasn't very old but I was impressed! We had a quiet day, just went to visit the grandsons for a few hours.
