Pretty Hearts for Friday

Hello, hello! Like blog friend Julierose, I am waving! Do you see me? Today's post is just for pretty, mostly. I've been making sure I work on projects at least an hour a day, as I try to combat the urge to wander around in a sad dismal fog. Today's weather isn't helping, high winds and spitting rain. If I set packages out for mail pickup they will blow away in the gale.

We had those couple lovely faux-spring days last week.

Time to sit on the deck to fill my first spring lavender hearts.

Lavender mix with essential oils of bergamot, lemon thyme, lemon verbena. For those who don't love strong lavender scent, my mix is herbal but not overwhelming. All natural products.

Not so much to say, just enjoy the pics.

Farmhouse ticking hearts. Available for order, trims vary.

Spring Bunny hearts. This set is available here or will be posted soon on etsy.

vintage bunny buttons!

Tomato sewing make-do pincushion. Vintage velveteen and wool. With emery. Green depression glass base from the little church flea. The base is so beautiful, all etched flowers, but I can't get a photo to show it off.

Available here, now, or etsy soon.

Off topic, one of my FB Marketplace finds. I did NOT get this, I lost track of the online auction. I think it sold for $25.oo. Isn't it outstanding and unusual? Usually I do not like hexagons, but I love pinwheels [and bright gaudy colors]. Sadly the center joins were unfinished. I prob would have had it quilted as is.

Yesterday I made a make-do goulash with things from the freezer. I've been meticulously conserving /freezing food now and found a container of beef gravy and half a can of tomato paste. [I decant pastes and sauces into freezer baggies]. Beef round cubes my friend bought me when it was the only meat in  the store, lots of Vidalia onions, paprika and caraway. Bake for 3 hours at 350*. I threw in the last 4 tiny red potatoes, too, and boiled up a big pot of farfalle/ bow tie pasta. Roasted broccoli to use it before it got soggy, the last of my fresh greens.  Delish and so comforting on a dark windy evening. No sour cream though.

Have a good weekend.

  1. Hi! (Waving back!) I happened to be on facebook when you posted for a change, so I'm not the last one to comment.

Your hearts are lovely, as always. I like the ticking ones, and the one with printed lavender sprigs on it, but they're all pretty. I hope they sell well for you.

The pincushion on the green glass base came out beautiful!

The quilt top makes me think of some my mom made (her's were not as fancy) made of leftover fabric from making family clothes, so there's a little bit of lots of colors and prints in there. I think the hexagons are pretty but I'm pretty sure trying to sew them would drive me batty!

I'm happy you're able to stay busy with small projects. Having fun things to work on helps us all not worry so much.

Our warm spring weather disappeared overnight - this morning it was below freezing and we had dustings of snow and light freezing drizzle most of the day. The ground didn't freeze up too much (taller grass was coated with ice) but the trees, which had just burst into buds and early leaves, were coated with a THIN layer of ice and made funny creaking sounds when the wind stirred them. My car door handles and the mailbox had icicles, too. But it's not supposed to last long, back into the upper 70s or low 80s next week!

I can't talk you into doing any watercolor paintings, can I...? LOL, I'll watch to see what else you get up to, though!

    Hang in there!

  3. It's miserable here today too. We had a couple of glorious sunny days and I sat out on the back deck. So lovely when we are stuck at home these days. But Winter is coming and I'm not looking forward to it at all.
My DIL brought me some shopping yesterday and my Grandkids came too. They stood in the garden and we had a nice chat. So good to see them for a short while. One has his 15th Birthday today.
It's school break just now and school will be run online for all three of them when it is due to start after Easter.
I'm thinking of cleaning out my sewing room and doing a different arrangement of my table and cupboards. They say a change is as good as a holiday, but I may be too tired to enjoy it. LOL!

    Keep well.

  4. Your goulash sounds like a perfect comfort food and heaven knows we need all the comfort we can get right now. Are you able to order groceries and have them delivered? There are volunteer groups helping people around here in just that way, alternatively people can order the groceries on line or by phone using their credit card and do curbside pickup at the store, no need to even get out of the car. I hope you have some similar options there.

  5. Your hearts are just lovely...we've been hunkered down in this gloomy weather--high winds and rain here most of today...It is difficult to keep one's spirits up for sure...
I made 4 more Courthouse Step blocks and
did hand quilting on Orange Ojos a bit....
    Early to bed I think....
    toodle-ooo Julierose ;)))

  6. Your hearts are a feast for the eyes. They look so good in your blue and white dish. It looks a tricky job to fill them but I'm sure the trusty supervisor is on hand to help!
We're trying the order online and collect from the car at our local supermarket today. Day 8 of our 21 day lockdown. So far, so good - a lot of sewing and Autumn gardening going on.
Your goulash meal sounds just the thing for our in-between weather at the moment. Delicious. Penny

  10. The hearts are just the thing to bring a little cheer :) I especially like the one with lavender sprigs. It's comforting to think of you making them.

What a cute quilt top. Seems like a good price for something like that? Ooh, speaking of colorful, I need to send you screenshots of a few things...yoyo quilt, and pineapples, if I'm remembering correctly.

We're not experiencing bare cupboards/freezer yet, BUT,if I wait till we have emptied them, no guarantee the stores will have what I want. How did we get here? SMH. It's 11am, too early for an adult beverage? Jk, sort of ;)

Thank you for giving us somehing to look forward to!

    Hugs,
    Kel
