Presidents Day ~ Week

Good evening!

What a beautiful treat of a day this was. We had dreadful winds and penetrating cold over the weekend, so cold it hurt to go outside, so this brief respite is a delight.

I promised you all that the paperwhites would bloom by Presidents Week, and here they are! NO scent this year, I know that growers have been breeding out the dirty diaper stink of the flowers, as Mel describes it.

These are the solo vases. Note how pretty and rewarding even one bulb from the grocery store or loose bin at the nursery can be.

My recycled, regrown amaryllis has two buds and red petals are showing.

The paperwhites should last another week, then the amaryllis will take a bit longer. I'm pretty thrilled that the beautiful red flowers will return this year.

I went thrifting with my friend B last week. Big shopping post coming later in the week, so see you then!

PS I'm told the tshirt woman loved her college memories quilt.

  1. Lovely paperwhites to brighten the room. We'll need to get some next fall, too wonderful to miss out when winter seems to drag on for so long. The cloud formations in your beach photos are always so interesting. No wonder you love photographing them every time you go out there to walk.

  4. Your paperwhites are very pretty, lots of blooms! And I'm happy to see your amaryllis is blooming again. I once had a cheap one from Walmart or somewhere, I just kept it growing year-round in a pot of soil and it bloomed every year for about 7 years. At first it was kind of pitiful, but after a few years of growth I got 4 blooms on one stalk. Sometimes I miss my houseplants... I certainly miss the days when I could find small bags of STERILE potting mix for indoor plants! All I seem to see any more are the big bags of soil mix and they are definitely not sterilized - I always get a crop of fruit-flies if I use it indoors.

Your scenery pictures are great, I especially like the one showing a shower out to sea.

    Thanks for sharing!

  5. Awww, glad you had a nice day. Hope you have a few more this week.

Boy, look at those happy flowers. I hadn't heard that the aroma was being bred out of them...well, now I feel bad for not liking the smell. I feel like it's my fault ;)

Can't wait to see your treasures from the thrift stores, I haven't had any luck lately.

    Take care,
    Kel
