July. Sunday

July. Sunday.

It's a beautiful Sunday morning here at the beach---hot and sunny but with a brisk wind blowing from the west. It's the last Sunday in July, the month is almost over, it has passed too fast. Did I savor it properly, I wonder---swim enough, beachcomb enough, admire the moon and summer stars? Drink sufficient margaritas and lemonade?  This will never come again, this July, as the days of summer, of wine and roses, fade off to the dog days of August  and the heat and tedium of September/ October.

July is one of my favorite months. It begins, literally with a bang, with a holiday and fireworks and parties then proceeds through endless days of sun and sand. A month frilled with blue hydrangeas, with orange daylilies, white queen anne's lace, and pink roses.
Endless summer.

Later I made my friend's recipe for quinoa. It is the basis for her Mediterranean diet, she has slimmed from a size 12 to an xxx small. [2?]. She eats the quinoa with a protein such as chicken or eggs, then has fruit. I have to ask if she eats any other veggies, seems not.

This was delicious for us with small steaks and beautiful asparagus.

Early evening walk with Mo. He is channeling his inner Doug the Pug, media star. Look at those Doug-like neck rolls! [yes, pugs are supposed to have rolls, especially the fawn males.]

Have a good week! Meteor shower tonight, go look!

PS If you thought my blue stars and planets for Cheddarback was demented, but were too polite to say so [and thanks Audrey for liking!], I also got this soft faded sprig print, a find by Nancy at Joy for Grace.

  1. The endless days of July...if only it could remain in more than a memory. It has been a gorgeous month for flowering things, here the heat and humidity have been our near constant companion, soon to head your way (I hope). Morning's first mug of coffee and then breakfast on the back porch are my idea of good summer living - that and the first Sungold tomatoes for our omelets!

  2. Yes, July is coming to an end much too quickly.
As long as you like your backings that is what matters.

  3. I used to love summers -- when I was a child. These days not so much. It's the heat and humidity that make it miserable. Though I remember spending a good part of one summer at the ocean and that was wonderful. I'm more an autumn, winter person. Beautiful photos, Lizzy.

  4. I love your thoughts on July. I love it a whole lot better now that I have central air...lol We are having a hot week but our humidity is low, so it's livable. Just in from working in the gardens. Have a great finish to July! Kit

  5. Now that I'm older, stiff, and overweight I don't enjoy summer nearly as much as when I was younger so mostly I enjoy it from indoors, lol. That's one reason I really enjoy you sharing your garden peeking walks and your beach pictures!

I didn't think your other fabrics were demented but I like the new one, too...

What is in the quinoa dish? I've eaten it but haven't found anything I particularly like yet. The diet sounds pretty boring, though, I'd never be able to stick to it. I don't mind having the same thing a lot, but I need a LITTLE more variety than that!

Thanks for sharing. I can't believe July is over either!! Time flies.

  6. The month certainly has flown by. Maybe August will pass more slowly. All of the flowers you posted are so pretty. That delicate hydrangea is beautiful.

I think I see onions and bell pepper in the quinoa? What else is in there? I've never tried it before, but I'd like to.
