Hi! Happy Friday the 13th! The ''unlucky'' day has finally brought us a warmer and sunny day. Today I am sharing delightfully springy photos sent to me by friends here and family, folks who don't have blogs so these will be wonderfully new views for you all.

From Penny is South Africa, below. I ignorantly had a vision of South Africa as a place of dry grasslands, but her area is said to have a "Mediterranean" climate. Of course it is late summer to her. So reminds me of my parents' home in Cape Cod, the lush maritime weather and flowers.
Additional info from Penny: "They're Japanese anemones (also called Windflowers). The most commonly grown here are the white and pink. They shoot up to well over a metre in Autumn and sometimes after heavy rain and Autumn winds they keel over. You also get dark pink/almost maroon ones with thin strip-like petals.
The hydrangeas are the common white Madam Emile Moulliere (usually the cheapest white ones in the nursery). Our soil is fairly acid and they then become spotted with pink and a glorious green on the more shady side. These also dry beautifully. "
Her hydrangeas are the most perfect shade of pink.
From Cat in Scotland, a wonderful description: " As we drove home from England today, I spied from the passenger window, a carpet of snowdrops in the woods somewhere in the Scottish borders. The ground was covered in them, all lovely and white. On our way south last week, everything was covered in snow. What a difference a week makes." Photos from Mel.
And from my brother in the southwest. He has a hummingbird nest in his courtyard tree! He said, "Two tiny eggs, the size of the tiny Jelly Beans." And yesterday I got a text that the eggs had hatched. The babies must be impossibly small!
I was so wanting spring to arrive that I considered doing my main rooms in blue/ white/ daffodil yellow. [but no.]

Yeah, we seem to be almost a month behind where flowers normally are - and some are blooming out of order. Today I have a handful of yellow daffodils (not many bloomed for some reason) and the white narcissus are starting to bloom. Usually the daffs are all but gone before they start. Oh, well. We had rain and hail today so I feel lucky to have any flowers at all!

ReplyDeleteI spied some leaves on my Cyclamen, I sit them under the hedge during Summer to keep the heat off them. Almost time to bring them out.
Still very cold here and cloudy. I love the Osprey story. Our Ospreys have returned and I watch them each day. I just love them. :) Kit

I love all of the flowers from EVERYWHERE! Spring came late-ish to the desert and we will be in full summer in about two weeks! (Oh to know that a winter coat can actually wear out!)

Great post! Love seeing the photos from around the world. I have never seen the sky look like it does in Mel's pic, just beautiful. The flowers in South Africa are such a treat to see. Love Cat's observations on her drive home, good stuff.
ReplyDeleteVery exciting for your brother to have baby hummingbirds! We had a nest with two eggs a few years ago, but the eggs never hatched :( I was amazed at how small the eggs are. I once brought a baby hummingbird home for a night. He apparently tried to fly, but wasn't ready yet. We couldn't find the nest, and didn't just want to leave him on the patio at the restaurant overnight. I fed him every twenty minutes. It was a looong night, but a wonderful experience. I took him back to the restaurant very early next morning. He was in a little basket that I placed on a hydrangea, and Momma came within 10 minutes. A lovely memory.
Awww, what a nice ending to the Osprey story.
