Hi everyone! It's a beautiful Saturday afternoon, brilliant sun and temps at almost 50* Unfortunately the big change from grey and 7* to warm and sunny has triggered three days of extreme migraines. But I'm just grateful I do not have the flu, as many of my friends do.The pain finally let up a smidge now, so I'll do my neglected post. I am so hoping by tomorrow I can walk out to the beach, despite the lingering mounds of snow.
A few days ago I decided I was oh so bored with getting projects finished.
Yes, winter is my sewing room time and I enjoy accomplishing things, but I needed something fun and new. I decided to make these little Valentine bowls fillers, from a design by primitive quilter/ designer/ artist Cheri Payne.
They're posted free on her FB group page, she is amazingly generous.
But I didn't want red Valentine-y stuff. I love hearts and Valentine's Day but I am not in the mood for red decor right after putting away all the Christmas red things.
I made my pillow sachets smaller, copied at 75%, and changed the colors to blue, turquoise and dull tans. I used wool scraps with hand dyed linen and French ticking backgrounds.
Sewed by machine, something I rarely do, since I prefer the softer look of hand applique and hand embroidery.
I despise sewing buttons, so I used tiny keys as trims instead.
Yes, this one looks like eyes, unfortunate color placement on my part.
Stuffed with lemon verbena from last summer, grown by me and my friend. I plan to use them in my big wooden bowl with all my old heart shaped tin cooky cutters and molds.
But they do look cute solo, maybe the tin hearts should go back in their jar?
And maybe I need to make some simpler hearts, all in blue! for my etsy shop. All with little keys , won't that be cute!
Now I have something exciting [to me anyway!] to share, it may seem a bit braggy but I was so thrilled---my Summertime quilt got a mention in the current issue of Primitive Quilts and Projects magazine, on the readers' page. Plus an excerpt from this blog. Mo and Kitty are mentioned, as is my wonderful machine quilter Lori C. I am so pleased.
I thought that was so cool---this was a challenging quilt. [a pattern by J. Patek called Spring Break that was featured in 2015 in the mag.]
Time for our walk, Mo has cabin fever.
The other day I couldn't find him! He was downstairs at my outside door, trying to escape to freedom. He ran away on Christmas Eve too!
He doesn't look sneaky or guilty at all , does he. I know he wants to run out to the big roads to chase cars! Some dogs just have that car-chasin' gene, you know.
So I'm making an extra effort to keep him active but safe. He is still enjoying the leftover snow.

Sorry about your migraine! I've been lucky, I've just had low-level headaches.
ReplyDeleteI like your blue 'valentines' and think some blue hearts would be good. I'd be tempted to add one or two with some pink or purple...
So cool that your quilt got mentioned and shown in the magazine!! That's got to make you feel pretty darn wonderful!
Mo - he's so mischievous! I don't think he's trying to 'run away' so much as telling you he wants to GO! Probably he wants to be outside enjoying the weather before it gets cold again, I'm sure he didn't like the frigid cold and snow either.
LOL, hubby wants to know what's on Mo's sweater!
Hope your headache goes all the way away so you can enjoy the nice weather and playing with Mo!

ReplyDeleteWe called our Airedale, Houdini because he escaped through the smallest space. The lady at the top of the road would phone and say ‘he’s out again, he’s just gone passed my house’. And we would need to get in the car and go after him.

Whoa, those are some serious steps, girlfriend! You do a good job of keeping Mo active.
I hope your migraine is better. Our weather went from warmer to colder and I could feel my arthritis in my back being achey- I do my best to ignore it.

Isn't the winter temps crazy--has been sub freezing in the Deep South and 60 today. Hope your headaches are better. Your blues are so pretty. Congratulations on your quilt being in the magazine--that magazine is one of my favorites.
