Boardwalk Days

“November--with uncanny witchery...Days full of a fine, pale sunshine....
Days with a high-sprung sky of flawless turquoise.
Days when an exquisite melancholy seemed to hang over the landscape and dream about the [sea]. But days, too, of the wild blackness of great autumn storms,
followed by dank, wet, streaming nights
when there was witch-laughter in the pines
and fitful moans among the mainland trees.''― L.M. Montgomery

Hi, everyone! The other day I had a visitor who wanted to walk on the boardwalk in our bigger town. It was again a glorious day--like your September, maybe: 65, and balmy. The boardwalk and beach here are beautiful---serene, pristine, despite being in a semi-urban setting.

Quite a few surfers because it was a school holiday.

Remember this boardwalk was destroyed completely just four years ago by Hurricane Sandy. It is 2.2 miles long, and cost 42 million dollars to rebuild; the new boardwalk reopened one year after H Sandy.

Next time I will bring a picnic.

  1. So beautiful...and no people??? It looks like high season here. Our small town is bursting at the seams. Lol

Thank you for sharing your lovely walk.

    Hugs.

  4. It looks beautiful, and a good place to walk. It's pretty out here today, sunny and clear with almost crystalline light. Only problem is it was only 51 and windy when I was out, so it felt pretty darn chilly!

  5. So beautiful! I think I remember pictures of the damaged boardwalk. I love East Coast boardwalks. This one reminds me of the one in Ocean City MD. Love those benches. Do the benches have remembrance plaques on them?

Thanks for the sharing. Really beautiful time of year to photograph the ocean.

    1. The benches do have donor plaques. They need not be memorial plaques, anyone could donate. (I couldn t afford a whole bench, lol.)
I was going to show Before and After photos, but I still find it very upsetting to look at the aftermath of Sandy photos. Silly, but it was scarier than I realized, I guess.
      Glad you enjoyed our walk!
