A Walk and a Blueberry Moon

Hello! Oh my it's hot, it's the doldrums of August. No relief in sight. Just look at this heat index the other day.

Today it was so hot at noon the deck burned my feet, so Mo had to stay indoors til his doggy walker came later in the afternoon.

He's pouting; he doesn't understand why he is kept inside.

My sweet friend the dog walker has been encouraging me to come with her and Mo on his walks, when I feel up to it. Yesterday was hot but I so wanted to get out and Mo was so thrilled to have me with him again. We actually walked quite far [slowly!].

"mom! C'mon!"

All the way to the beach pathway alley.

I've missed it, maybe you have too!?

I adore the marigold hedges.

And these are amazing morning blue morning glories, two stories tall. The lady says they self seed each year.

Lovely old fashioned white hydrangeas.

Taller than even the Russian Giants, these sunflowers are gorgeous.

Mo trotted off, headed to the koi pond, but it was too far and too hot for him---or me. We coaxed him back home, looking for shade and grass to feel cool on little feet.

Our brief walk lifted my spirits. Later he was allowed on the deck. He quite loves this big round rock I have, maybe it feels cool?

...
Tonight the full moon rose at sunset.

The August Moon is called either the Sturgeon Moon or the Blueberry Moon. I'm pretty sure there haven't been sturgeon around here for a couple hundred years--and it's an ugly word---so I'm going with Blueberry Moon.

edit: I'm wrong, we do have sturgeon. Oh I'd hate to meet up with one at the beach! Endangered and rare. HERE

Moon reflecting in the ocean waves.

The moon will be full tomorrow too, go out and look!
......

I've had this pretty faux seaglass jar for a few years but it never has been quite right...too small for flowers, candles burn out if used outside.

But the other day on my first shopping outing in three months!!--at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, I found a string of tiny rice-sized, battery operated fairly lights. Looks like a jar of fireflies, remember doing that?
Perfect! Better than the photo. Just right for earlier evenings of August and September.

have a good week!

love

gone to the beach...

PS From FB, isn't this so cute? For next year? I'll look for old trucks at the flea.

  1. So happy you got to get out for a walk. I hope improvements continue.
What a great idea to put the lights in that jar. We don't have fireflies but I can pretend!!

  2. I'm so glad you got to go for a walk! I've missed seeing your local sights. And I love that walkway! It's good your dog-walker encourages you to walk with her, and better for you in case you fall or just plain need a helping hand. That's very nice of her.

Mo is so goofy, pouting like that. Probably the rock was cool? But if it had been in the sun maybe it was warm, instead. You'll have to stick your toes on it and see if it's warmer or cooler than the decking!

I love the 'bug' lights, I've seen them on Amazon but never in person. I saw something where people were using them in old wine bottles, but all the strings I could find had a battery pack too big to fit inside and I couldn't figure out how they hid it. :( They look really cool in your seaglass jar - should put the glass float on top for a 'lid'!

Take care and don't over-do it!

  3. Eeeek, look at that heat index! Dang, I do not envy you.

Yes, you know how much we all love the pathway. There's something special about it...I think. Haven't seen hydrangea flowers in that shape, so pretty as are the marigolds. Mo sure is working the cute in these pics. Especially the one where is face is in the pillow.

Hmmm, sturgeon, aren't they the fish Dr. Marion Ford is always talking about? I'll stuck with Blueberry, thank you very much.

Maybe the rock holds scents? Heck, I don't know. If only Mo could talk.

Ooooh, how cute is that jar. Love that idea and it really does look cute.

Glad to hear you're getting out and about. I hope it's lifting your spirits.

Oh, and yes, the little truck filled with succulents. Very cute idea.

Enjoy the weekend, it's here again already :)

    1. Hi Kel! I think you re right, sturgeon are one of the fish Doc Ford studies. I forgot. I still didn t think they existed around here in modern times but I seem to be wrong. [Doc is doing more ops and less studies these days, I notice. And lotsa women in his life, lol.]
The rock is naturally formed, like a beach pebble, and is [non-gem-quality] pink quartz. From a friend s garden, she has passed on and I saved the rock. Mo might feel loving vibes? But mostly he s just a little slug who likes to rest his chin on anything.

Mel is right tho, the rice lights don t work in wine bottles bec the battery pack is rather huge, 4 AA batterie, but BB and B also sells an LED wine cork that works well in bottle.

btw what did you do w your foottool? Recover or keep as is?

      have a great weekend

  5. No worries, I don t even notice, my brain fixes the typos. LOL I had someone correct me on, of all places, FaceBook, and she told me how to edit and correct typos there. But Blogger doesn t seem to have the little button.

  6. Oh, the lights! I've never actually seen fireflies, but can imagine them.

Mo. I had my face buried in my pillow this morning at 5a, too.

    Wishing you a good week.

  7. Congratulations to you and Mo for going out together! There's nothing quite like being with your favorite human!

How wonderful is the jar with the lights? I love the idea of fireflies in a jar. When we were kids, my cousins would capture them to show off their skills! (This is easier and nothing is being tormented)

    smooches,

    1. Fireflies--in our defense we always let them go after a short captivity of maybe half an hour! They don t come out til dark, and on summer nights my parents would sit out while we played in the yard, but at ''bedtime'' the mayo jar got opened and the fireflies would fly away.
