Grey Velvet Beach

''Winter is a time of gray velvet weather drifting towards us.....Colors are softer, sounds have more depth, the pace is gentler. Instead of resentment at the lack of sun, snuggle into the gray velvet quilt and make yourself a cup of tea.''
Jennifer Jones

Hi everyone! Isn't the above quote so beautiful. It perfectly captures the soft grey winter days of February and March at the beach.

The thermometer finally snuck above freezing this weekend and more importantly the howling winds died away to a gentle puff.

Time now for long beach walks again (despite my injured leg and scary ER visit!).

below, a winter sandcastle is being built

sweet, faithful Gully! I forgot his bread, too bad.

It was the time of the new moon/ very low tide. It's fascinating to see the ocean floor, usually under water, underfoot as you swim!

Below millions of tiny mussel shells. I suppose Gully has dined well and would have disdained my old bread, anyway.

Snow lingering on the north sides of the dunes. And my deck has 3 foot drifts still.

More snow tomorrow?   I shall bake bread and oatmeal cookies. It is winter---February---let's embrace it....
Here is the rest of the quote from the top of the page. The writer says it so perfectly:

''...The weather is a friend if you make it one. I look forward to the gray,
quiet time for solitude, contemplation, reading, long conversations with
friends. Colors are softer, sounds have more depth, the pace is gentler.
Instead of resentment at the lack of sun, snuggle into the gray velvet
quilt and make yourself a cup of tea.
''

  2. Great pictures even if the day was a little gray. I've never heard that quote before but it does fit a nice winter day (when the wind isn't howling!! LOL!). The pictures are so cool, I love the little ripples revealed in the sand, and how the darker shells? form almost a straight line. I hope your leg is healing well! It would be wonderful if they could discover some sort of glue to seal such wounds up and let the skin grow back through it! Maybe from a shellfish that glues itself to rocks?

It's supposed to snow and blow here again tomorrow, so I'm planning to bake....
