You know...summer is winding down, chores have piled up, fall cleaning looms ominously...
-Wash windowsThat was my list for today...oh and : scrub and Tilex the kids' bathroom.
-wash screens
-sweep and wash the stairs
-wash exterior doors/ both sides!
But it was such a nice day! Kind of hot, mercury hovering around 80, fairly dry though. Nice breeze. What's a girl to to do!?
I went to the beach, of course. I think it's more important to enjoy the final beauty and pleasure of summer than it is to scrub the darn stairs!
My little friend slept nearby! Below and upper right corner, above....
And I am determined to finish the evil star flowers on the Porch quilt while I can sew outside in the bright light.
These flowers are NOT fun.
I contemplated many ways to make them, including piecing them...but then I might lose the scrappy background. Should have listened to myself! Even the scrappy background is a pain in the butt...the seams hit in oddly unattractive places, see below.
But I got this far...sooo...I figured I'd go with the original design. [silly me.]....
I did a combo of freezer paper, Fray-check, and basting. I never baste. Ever. But I did.
Big seam allowances which are pressed heavily to the sticky side of the freezer paper...
I cut away the excess as I sew, pulling out the paper in pieces. It is hard to remove the paper, but it keeps the bias points from hooking, a pet peeve of mine. And yet some hooking is here, see?
Many of the points are what I call ''overworked''...they look sad and tired...and a few had to be square..
Each star took me about two hours, plus prep time. One left to go!
Sigh... I also cut ALL the geese blocks wrong. I knew it! That simple block defeats me every time....I have to recut now.
BTW I did ALL my list when I got home! Next up---washing slipcovers.
What's on your to-do list? Or are you a happy relaxed slacker...lucky you!
love

......................gone to the beach
The only things in my head right now are getting as many things as I can off my desk today. I'm on vacation next week.
ReplyDeleteI casually mentioned to my boss that I wanted to grab a week of vacation before he went on two...and he said, "How about next week?"
He didn't have to say it twice.
I'll be making my list soon as what I'd like to do.
I may just go to the beach, too!
Hunter
Did you do the watercolors of the birds? So very pretty! Good move to go to the beach. You are a smart woman. :) Kit
ReplyDeleteI think your stars look okay even if they gave you so much grief!! It is supposed to be a primitive style quilt.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I love the colors you chose for it.
Amazing watercolor, Lizzy!!
