Cape Cod Shopping

Oh the fun of it: "Don't you just love a bargain?"

Last week my whirlwind trip to Cape Cod didn't allow much time for shopping. But I made time for a visit that quintessential Cape Cod store, the ubiquitous bargain hunter's delight...beloved by wash-a-shores, newcomers, summer people, and tourists alike: The Christmas Tree Shop.

I chose to visit the shop in Orleans. It was jam packed with great "stuff"---none of it about Christmas, so don't be mislead. A big part of the fun is that everything is so, well, cheap! Everything I got, including a LOT of snacks and drinks and paper stuff cost less than $50.oo. At, say, Home Goods, you'd be signing a Visa charge for three times that amount and still have to stop at the market for the food. Really!

Seashells, sea stars, tiny wooden lobster bouys, a Nantucket red sunhat...in an authentic artist-made Nantucket basket (not for Christmas Tree Shop, though they sell repros).

All kinds of fun summery treasures....like the adorable and oh so useful small totes. And boardshort cotton placemats for $1.oo!

...and take-home presents, including paper napkins with a pewter shell to weight them down in their basket when dining on the deck....

And hostess gifts....here the napkins and holder are tucked into a tote, a postcard with a thank you message handwritten on the back and tied on with raffia. Casual, fun, useful!

And it wouldn't be Cape Cod without a chance to stock up on my favorite pastel hat.

I bought a few at Joe's Grill near Nauset Beach because who knows when I'll visit again?

Hey, if you see a woman at the flea market,wearing a Joe's Grill hat, say Hi! Maybe it will be me. Ya never know.
