Little Flag Quilt Pattern

 

Little Flag quilt: Flag finishes 5 1/2" x 3" ; blue star section of Flag is 2 1/2" x 1 3/4" finished, if pieced. antique Flying Geese blocks are 3 1/2" x 1 3/4" finished/ sewed . Total quilt is approx 16" x 24".

I was working w irregular antique blocks and made things fit. I machine quilted in a wide scallop or ripple, like a flag waving.

** I originally planned this for a small flag I found on the tideline, all wet and soggy, after H Sandy. I find flags now and then on the beach after holidays and storms. But today as I held the quilt again I remembered I decided in the end to use a printed fabric flag [shown], bec using a real flag, like the one shown, might be disrespectful of our flag. [I put the Sandy flag in my journal instead.] You can do whatever works for you, including piecing a flag. Little flags are sold everywhere right now, for fourth of July.
