Happy Halloween!

Boo!

Trick or treat!

C'mon over to the beach and get your Reese's Cups--or an apple, if you must, we'll put on our spooky make up and go the parade!

I hope to have better Mo pictures to add.
He's a good sport, my little man. I bribe him with deli turkey treats.

He's a LOBSTER! Hahaha.

Here's a tiny jackolantern quilt.

I made it years ago when I was teaching myself to paper piece. Someone gave me a little bag of Halloween fancy buttons and I sewed them on the sample here.

I still like it, a cutie...
This is one of my favorite quilts. It's a cheddar Double Wedding Ring quilt,  isn't that so cool!

When my friend the quilt dealer called me, and said he had a cheddar Wedding Ring quilt, mint condition.----I snapped it up, sight unseen.

All hand stitched and hand quilted, in a little pumpkin seed motif.

The rings are mid-tone solids and tiny ginghams, always finishing up with a pink and blue Four Patch in the ring corners. There is always at least one deep red wedge in each arc, which adds to the motion and eye appeal.

The binding is a disappointment and I hope someday to rebind it in turkey red. The seller even sent the red solid for the redo, but I 've never gotten around to doing that chore.

I believe it dates from the mid 20th century.
It reminds me of Abstract Impressionist work by painters like Frank Stella, 1960s.

Hope your Halloween is fun! And spooky.

More Storm

Hi! For those friends who have been asking, yes all is well and no flooding at my cottage. But hugely high tide and high surf/ big waves. Pamela packed a bigger punch than we imagined. See previous post for forecast etc...

The next day [Thursday] This is what I saw when I took Mo out out on the deck, early in the morning. The waves are crashing on the high dunes, far lower left.

This is how the beach usually looks, and where the water line usually is. All that white sand was underwater.

What looks like fog or mist is salt spray, the wind blowing the crests of the waves, flinging the drops into the air.

By noon all was normal-ish. Big puddles to wade through to get down to the water. Maybe I'll find some treasures, in a few days?

Hurricane Dregs

Hi everyone! How is your week so far? Here at the beach we're having a delightfully stormy day, as the last tattered remnants of Hurricane Pamela slog through our region. I find it amazing that a storm can make its way all the way here to the US east coast, from far far away Puerta Vallarta ,Mexico! Hard to even imagine. [hurricanes here usually arrive from the Atlantic, coming up the coast from the south.]

Of course I don't want rainy days every day, but now and then is pretty good, I think. Usually I d spend the day working on projects or quilts but today was designated Fall Cleaning Day, and I just wanted to get it done, however futile it may seem as leaves tracked in all day along with wet disgruntled doggy.

It's wet and windy but since Pamela was a tropical storm, the air is rather warm, and soft, almost balmy. Winds SSE at 30 mph. A few minutes ago, the back door, the deck door, blew open, scared me and Mo! "A ghost, mommy!"

Mo is getting used to his raincoat. Yes, he can be bribed.

More pics from our walks this week...

driftwood pumpkins, how cool is that!

Mo's nemeses, his bitter foes! Fence creatures!

this lights up at night, much to Mo's horror.

Wonderfully spooky moon!

Yesterday was crisp and was the first day I was able to wear my thrifted tweed jacket. I layered it over a black tee shirt and my mustard ''boyfriend'' cardi from Target. Wore khaki cargoes, added an embroidered linen scarf in tan/ natural and a vintage necklace: brass oak leaves and acorns, with a few glass acorns. I was so pleased. This is the first time in ages---years?---that I've put on an outfit and felt it looked really great. It made me happy, even if I did look a bit like my mom.

One of my stops was Home Goods. They still, or again, have many glass and mercury glass pumpkins, if you're wanting one. Very inexpensive.

I love these art glass pumpkins but haven't bought any yet.

See you soon! Be sure to stop by on Halloween, for a peek at a Halloween quilt or two and to see Mo in his costume.

PS The Gooses, parents only! are now dressed up in---ah, um..FOOTBALL dresses.?!? Hahahaha.
I'm baffled.

Oh and baseball--Mets? or KC?  Mel? Anyone? I'm a Yankees fan, but I'll root for the Mets, usually the kiss of death, lol.

hmmm. 10 PM This just flashed up on all my devices. I never know what the heck I'm supposed to do.  Go out and take a look? Maybe? Stay home? Fine.
