Summer Blues HEARTS

Beach Cottage / Summer Blues HEARTS

 Set of 2,   5" x 3"

Hi! Some of you have admired the tiny ticking hearts I use as tags...

Here is a larger set to share!

Antique navy and white French ticking, vintage brass sailor buttons, nice long hemp cord loop. Backs are a fun navy cotton with little American flags. I couldn't resist!

Special [salvaged!] scraps of wonderful old ticking stripes handmade into sachets, filled with Cape Cod lavender and a bit of polyfil for plumpness.*
I love these tied to a white ironstone pitcher filled with little American flags for the 4th, or any summer day...

...toss them in a bowl full of white shells or, in the fall, red apples.....

How about with a candle, some starfish, a few tiny floats or seaglass---all on an old chipped blue-and-white tureen-plate---

Light summery  scent, simple enough style to sneak into your guy's side of the closet?

*I use the polyfil with plenty of lavender or other herbs not to be "cheap" but because on certain styles I like the look of the plump full hearts. What do you all think? Should I stick to 100% lavender or go with what, to me, looks prettiest sometimes....?

Have fun planning your Fourth of July picnic! No matter what else I do, I always make my classic potato salad and I always decorate with all my collected little flags.
And fireworks, have to have fireworks!

Old-fashioned White

Hi! Oh I have to take a moment before I start to paint the LR! So how's everyone's week been, hmmm?

I accomplished nothing today! I was off to buy a book by a fav author, stop at the garden store to buy herbs for my own herb garden...and had to run home, forgot something, yaddah-yaddah. So I am painting the LR instead...try again tomorrow, even though it's Saturday?

One of my fav blogs, A Beach Cottage has a post today all about Sarah's farmers' market in AU.

Her market seems a bit more exotic than mine, but I do love serving fresh local food to friends and family.
Since this weekend is, however, dedicated to house painting I almost skipped the market this week...

but was lured in by the prospect of the first cut field flowers....

Snapdragons!

Big tubs of old-fashioned white snapdragons....

Who could resist?

And, oh okay, a box of Italian deep fried artichoke hearts. Man, are they wonderful! Reheat and dip in a make-do remoulade of mayo, parm, garlic, worcestershire sauce. Yummy yum yum.
Climbing up and down the paint ladder will work off the calories right? (oh geez I hope so! Because I just ordered new swim suits!)...

This is an old Pennsylvania farm basket I keep in the car to hold my market goodies...

I think it needs a coat of white paint along with my walls? This is photoshopped to tone down the real color....

Someone already "ruined" it with orange-brown paint so I think it's a yes.....

Have a fun weekend, pray for sun. And waves....

The First Days of Summer

that beautiful season...
Summer....

Filled was the air
 with a dreamy and magical light;
and the landscape
Lay as if new created
in all the freshness
of childhood.

~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

The endlessly long summer evenings always seem magical to me....

Here on the very edge of our continent, sunset comes late, the blue gloaming, the nautical twilght, lasts for hours...and the sun returns almost before you've had a chance to to tuck in under a summer quilt for a brief restless sleep.

So exciting: summer is here!

I came home from my beach walk tonight at 9.30....

It was still light out....

[In December, this twilight time will arrive at  3.30PM.]

Now, in June, the sky begins to brighten by 4.30 AM on this longest day.

No wonder that since ancient times, the summer solstice, the longest day, has been noted,

and treasured...

revered for each magic hour....
